SSN College of Engineering Chennai to Stop Admissions from 2026-27, Merge with Shiv Nadar University
SSN College Chennai to Stop Admissions, Merge with SNU

In a significant development for technical education in Tamil Nadu, the prestigious Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar (SSN) College of Engineering in Chennai has declared it will cease accepting new student applications for the upcoming 2026-27 academic session. The institution has secured the necessary approvals for a progressive closure and will be integrated with the adjacent Shiv Nadar University Chennai (SNUC) in a phased manner.

Approvals and Official Announcement

The college's decision has received the green light from both its affiliating university, Anna University, and the apex technical education body, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). An official notification posted on the SSN College of Engineering website directs future applicants to look elsewhere. "SSN College of Engineering is no longer accepting applications. Please apply for similar programmes to the SSN School of Engineering at Shiv Nadar University Chennai (SNUC)," the announcement states. To address concerns, the college has also published a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for current students and their parents.

Impact on Current and Future Students

According to a source within the college, the institution currently has over 4,800 students enrolled across undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes. The college has assured that all these students will continue their studies and will receive their degrees from Anna University as planned, given the gradual nature of the closure. No new admissions will be conducted from the 2026-27 batch onwards.

For aspirants seeking engineering degrees from the legacy institution, the pathway now leads to the SSN School of Engineering under Shiv Nadar University Chennai. Admission to BTech and MTech programmes here will require candidates to clear an entrance test and an interview, marking a shift from SSN College's previous admission process. The autonomous college under Anna University filled 65% of its seats through online counselling based on Class XII marks in mathematics, chemistry, and physics.

Fee Structure and Faculty Assurance

A major point of difference is the tuition fee. While government quota seats at SSN College of Engineering had a tuition fee of approximately ₹55,000, the BTech programme fee at Shiv Nadar University Chennai is around ₹3.5 lakh. However, the university has provided crucial assurances to current SSN students. The existing fee structure for currently enrolled students will remain unchanged as per the norms applicable to their batch.

Furthermore, the university has confirmed that faculty members at SSN College will continue in their teaching roles until all existing students complete their respective programmes. The college also clarified that for any student with arrears or backlogs after the final batch graduates, the academic norms and regulations of Anna University will continue to apply for clearance purposes.
