UNSW Australia Sets Up Bengaluru Campus at Manyata Tech Park

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) will launch its Bengaluru campus this August. This Australian university will operate from Manyata Tech Park. The announcement came during a formal event at Vidhana Soudha on Monday.

Official Agreement and Program Details

UNSW Vice-Chancellor Professor Attila Brungs and Industries Department Principal Secretary S Selvakumar signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement formalizes the campus establishment. The university plans to start with several key programs.

  • Undergraduate courses in commerce, media, computer science, and data science.
  • A postgraduate program in cybersecurity.

Industries Minister MB Patil confirmed the academic council of UNSW will directly manage the Bengaluru campus. Students here will follow the same curriculum as the main Australian university.

Industry Connections and Future Plans

Minister Patil highlighted the strategic location at Manyata Tech Park. Many leading companies operate from this tech hub. Students will gain strong industry exposure and skill-oriented learning opportunities.

UNSW also expects to establish another campus at the upcoming KWIN City in the near future. This expansion reflects growing educational ties between India and Australia.

Strengthening Educational Ties

Patil noted an existing education and research cooperation programme between India and Australia for 2025-30. This framework supports such international campus initiatives.

Higher Education Minister Sudhakar praised UNSW for its strong reputation. "UNSW is widely recognised across the Asia-Pacific region for its strong employability outcomes," he said. "Graduates are actively sought after by leading employers."

He believes the new campus will strengthen Bengaluru's innovation ecosystem. It may encourage more international universities to consider Bengaluru for their Indian operations.

Bengaluru's Growing International University Presence

Several other international institutions have shown interest in Bengaluru recently.

  1. The University of Liverpool announced plans for a Bengaluru campus.
  2. The University of Lancaster also plans to open a campus here.
  3. Imperial College London already operates a research wing in the city.
  4. The University of Wolverhampton expressed interest in setting up a research wing at Dr Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University.

This trend indicates Bengaluru's rising status as a global education hub. The city attracts top universities seeking to tap into India's talent pool and vibrant tech industry.
