VP Radhakrishnan: Faculty Development Key for Global Education

Vice-President Calls for Modern Universities to Prioritize Faculty Development and Innovation

In a significant address at the 9th convocation of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala, Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan outlined a comprehensive vision for transforming India's higher education landscape. He asserted that modern universities must make faculty development a top priority, actively encourage innovation, and strengthen collaborative partnerships to build a globally competitive education system.

Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 and Inclusive Development

Radhakrishnan highlighted the ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasizing that students and youth are among the most critical stakeholders in realizing this national aspiration. He called for an inclusive development model where no state or section of society is left behind, ensuring equitable progress across the nation.

During the convocation ceremony, a total of 511 students were awarded degrees across various disciplines. Notably, 32 students received gold medals, with 23 of these prestigious awards going to meritorious girl students. The Vice-President remarked that this majority of female medal winners strongly reflects the growing empowerment of women and their increasing contributions to national progress.

Praise for Himachal Pradesh's Heritage and Contributions

In his first visit to the hill state after assuming office, Radhakrishnan praised Himachal Pradesh as both Dev Bhoomi (land of Gods) and Veer Bhoomi (land of the brave). He acknowledged the state's significant contributions to the nation's armed forces and celebrated its rich hospitality, culture, and traditions. Earlier in the day, he paid floral tributes at the State War Memorial in Dharamshala, honoring the sacrifices of military personnel.

University Initiatives and Student Responsibilities

The Vice-President specifically appreciated the Central University's innovative 'Community Lab' initiative and its efforts to maintain a drug-free campus environment. He urged students to remain vigilant against drug abuse and channel their energy toward constructive nation-building activities that contribute positively to society.

Governor Emphasizes Holistic Education Philosophy

Governor Kavinder Gupta, speaking at the event, emphasized that India's educational tradition has always been based on the harmonious integration of knowledge, values, and character building. He clarified that the objective of education in India was never limited to securing employment alone but rather focused on the holistic development of individuals.

Gupta called upon the degree recipients to utilize their knowledge and talents not only for personal growth but also for the welfare of society and the nation at large. This dual responsibility, he suggested, represents the true essence of educated citizenship in the Indian context.

Distinguished Gathering at Convocation Ceremony

The significant event was attended by several prominent figures, including Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, former Chief Minister and present Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur, and Kangra MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj. Their presence underscored the importance placed on higher education and institutional development in the region.

The convocation served as both a celebration of academic achievement and a platform for articulating a forward-looking educational philosophy that balances global competitiveness with traditional Indian values of holistic development and social responsibility.
