The picturesque city of Dehradun played host to a prestigious ceremony celebrating leadership and innovation this Sunday. The ET Leadership Excellence Awards recognised the outstanding contributions of approximately 50 individuals and organisations spanning a diverse range of sectors.
Governor's Vision: AI as the Engine for Uttarakhand's Future
The event's chief guest, Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), delivered a powerful address centred on technological advancement. He made a compelling case for the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across all sectors to enhance public life and accelerate the state's economic growth.
Addressing the distinguished gathering, Governor Singh asserted that Uttarakhand must leverage AI "in all possible ways" to fuel innovation in manufacturing, production, and services. He connected this technological push to broader economic ambitions, stating, "We have had a taste of a trillion-dollar economy and are committed to securing a leading position in the global economy." He emphatically declared that the 21st century belongs to AI and quantum technologies.
Celebrating Diversity in Achievement
Alongside actor Preeti Jhangiani, the Governor presented awards to winners from fields including tourism, education, and entrepreneurship. During the ceremony, he highlighted the indispensable and visible role of women in India's growth narrative. "Women's success is not rhetoric; it is clearly evident on the ground," he remarked.
Shifting focus to the state's natural strengths, Singh pointed out Uttarakhand's ecological advantages. He expressed confidence that the state has the potential to lead national missions in the production of honey, aroma products, and millets.
Panelists Weigh In on State's Economic Trajectory
A subsequent panel discussion on Uttarakhand's economic path featured insights from several experts. Doon University Vice-Chancellor Surekha Dangwal identified human resources as the state's core strength, specifically praising the pivotal role played by women in social and political movements.
AI expert Shubham Pandey elaborated on the practical, everyday applications of artificial intelligence, demystifying the technology for the audience. Meanwhile, economist Ravi Kumar stressed that government initiatives must be supported by a shift in the local mindset to achieve their full impact.
The guest of honour, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi, outlined various state-sponsored schemes designed to support and nurture agri-entrepreneurs, aligning with the theme of fostering grassroots economic development.
The awards function, therefore, served not only as a platform for recognition but also as a confluence of ideas, setting a forward-looking agenda for Uttarakhand's development powered by technology, human capital, and sustainable practices.
