The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has singled out Andhra Pradesh for special recognition, hailing it as a role-model state in the critical field of energy conservation. The state's consistent excellence has been proven by its unbroken streak of winning the prestigious National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) since 2015, including the last four consecutive awards leading up to NECA 2025.
A State Setting New Benchmarks
Andhra Pradesh earned praise for establishing new standards through the strategic adoption of cutting-edge, global energy-efficient technologies. This progress has been achieved in close collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The state's wide-ranging initiatives span crucial sectors including urban development, industry, housing, buildings, and anganwadis.
These comprehensive efforts are projected to drive sustainable economic growth while simultaneously bolstering Andhra Pradesh's international reputation as a leader in energy efficiency and the reduction of harmful emissions.
National Call to Action and Tangible Results
Declaring the National Energy Conservation Week (December 14–20) and the NECA 2025 awards a grand success, the BEE called on all Indian states to maintain momentum in the national conservation movement. This push is vital for building a sustainable planet and achieving India's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate action promises.
BEE Director General Dhiraj Kumar Srivastava emphasized that energy conservation transcends policy, calling it "a way of life." He highlighted concrete outcomes, noting that the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) scheme has enabled Indian industries to save approximately 27 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) of energy.
Furthermore, the adoption of advanced energy-efficient technologies across buildings, industry, and transport has led to an estimated reduction of nearly 321.06 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions. This marks a significant contribution to India's efforts to mitigate climate change.
Fostering a Culture of Conservation from the Ground Up
Explaining the broader impact of NECA 2025, BEE Secretary Milind Deore stated that the awards mirror India's firm resolve to transition toward a clean, energy-efficient, and sustainable future. He observed that participation from states, industries, and institutions demonstrates that economic growth and environmental protection can advance hand-in-hand through innovation.
The BEE placed strong emphasis on the importance of behavioral change and youth involvement. This year, a massive 83 lakh students from more than 1.1 lakh schools nationwide participated in the national painting competition on energy conservation.
Following directives from the Union Ministry of Power, the BEE has advised all state-designated agencies to intensify their focus on student-centric programs. This includes promoting energy clubs in schools to cultivate awareness and encourage energy-efficient habits from an early age.
