Assam University celebrated a significant academic milestone on Monday. The institution held its 23rd convocation ceremony in Silchar. This event recognized outstanding achievements across various fields.
Honorary Degrees Awarded to Distinguished Personalities
The university conferred honorary Doctor of Letters degrees upon several eminent individuals. Senior IPS officer Partha Sarathi Mahanta received this prestigious academic honor. Industrialist Anand Gopal Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, was also awarded a D.Litt degree.
Additional Honors for Academic Contributions
Assam University extended recognition to other notable figures. Prof. Niranjan Roy, vice-chancellor of Gurucharan University in Silchar, received honors for his contributions to Sanskrit studies. Prof. Partha Sarkar, a senior faculty member in the department of mass communication at Assam University, was also honored during the ceremony.
Large-Scale Convocation Draws Thousands of Students
The three-day convocation program witnessed massive participation. A total of 13,666 students received their degrees during the event. This marked one of the largest academic convocations ever held in the region.
Ceremony Presided Over by Distinguished Dignitaries
Swami Atmapriyanandaji formally conferred the honorary degrees. He serves as pro-chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute. The ceremony took place in the presence of Assam University chancellor Arup Raha and vice-chancellor Rajive Mohan Pant. Several other dignitaries attended the convocation as well.
Anand Mahindra could not attend the ceremony in person. The industrialist received his honorary degree through official channels. The convocation highlighted Assam University's commitment to recognizing excellence across different sectors of society.
