The Western Command of the Border Security Force (BSF) held a distinguished ceremony this week to honour the exemplary service of its personnel. A total of 24 individuals, comprising officers, subordinate officers, and other ranks, were presented with the prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Governor Kataria Lauds BSF's Pivotal Role
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the BSF Western Command campus in Lakhnaur, Mohali, was graced by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, as the chief guest. Senior officers and dignitaries from the civil and police administration of the Tricity region were also in attendance to celebrate the awardees.
In his address, Governor Kataria commended the force for its unwavering commitment to national security. He highlighted the BSF's critical role in effectively securing India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, both in times of peace and conflict. The Governor also acknowledged the force's vital assistance in maintaining internal law and order, conducting counter-insurgency operations, and executing daring rescue missions during floods in Jammu and Punjab.
A Legacy of Service and Sacrifice Remembered
Welcoming the gathering, ADG of BSF Western Command, Satish S Khandare, IPS, reflected on the force's glorious legacy. He emphasised the BSF's pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's frontiers and paid solemn tribute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Khandare specifically recalled the force's valiant contributions during Operation Sindoor, underscoring the bravery and professionalism that define the BSF.
The Police Medal for Meritorious Service is a distinguished honour awarded to personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces and State Police who have rendered more than 18 years of service marked by excellence and an unblemished record. The 24 recipients at this ceremony were recognised for their dedication, integrity, and exemplary performance over their long careers.
