Hubballi is set to host a grand public ceremony to honour Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, a politician who has etched his name in the global record books. The event, scheduled for December 13 at 4 PM at Nehru Maidan, celebrates Horatti's unparalleled electoral achievement and his decades of service.

A Guinness World Record in Politics

Basavaraj Horatti holds the unique distinction of setting a Guinness World Record for being elected eight consecutive times from the Teachers' Constituency. This feat is unmatched in the political arena, making him a singular figure. The felicitation committee, led by KLE Society director Shankaranna Munavalli, is organizing the event to recognize this extraordinary contribution.

"Horatti is the only person to make a Guinness record in the field of politics," stated Munavalli. He further praised Horatti's efficient handling of various ministerial portfolios, including science, technology, and education, during his long political career.

Grand Celebrations with Procession and Performances

The festivities will begin with a vibrant procession. According to HDMC corporator Rajanna Koravi, Horatti will be taken from Lamington School to Nehru Maidan in a procession leading up to the main stage program. The route will be enlivened by performances from many folk art groups, adding a cultural touch to the occasion.

The ceremony boasts a high-profile guest list. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event. The dignitaries present will include Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade, Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and HD Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Assembly Speaker UT Khadar, and District Minister Santosh Lad, alongside many former ministers.

Widespread Praise and Expected Turnout

Colleagues and associates have poured in accolades for Horatti, highlighting his character and work. Navalgund MLA NH Konaraddy described him as a "simple, honest, and straightforward person" who solved numerous problems for teachers and managed departmental responsibilities adeptly.

MLA Mahesh Tenginakai emphasized Horatti's 45 years of work in the education field, serving as an inspiration and functioning impartially. "This ceremony has been organised to express our gratitude to him," Tenginakai said.

The event is expected to draw a massive crowd. Konaraddy estimated that between 15,000 to 20,000 teachers and members of the public from the districts of Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and Uttara Kannada will participate in the felicitation program, underscoring the widespread respect Horatti commands across the region.
