Karnataka Wins National Energy Conservation Award 2025, Beats Maharashtra
Karnataka bags National Energy Conservation Award 2025

In a significant comeback, Karnataka has been honored with the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award (NECA) for 2025, reclaiming its status as the nation's top-performing state in implementing energy efficiency initiatives. This victory follows a narrow defeat to neighboring Maharashtra in similar evaluations last year.

A Triumphant Return to the Top

The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu to TD Rajegowda, Chairperson of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), and KP Rudrappaiah, Managing Director of KREDL. The recognition falls under the State Energy Efficiency Performance Award (SDA Group-I) category. State officials revealed that Karnataka's latest score surpassed Maharashtra's by a decisive margin of 2.75 points on a 100-point scale.

This win underscores Karnataka's consistent leadership in the field. The state has maintained its position as a 'front-runner' in the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) for three consecutive years: 2020, 2021–22, and 2023.

The Pillars of Karnataka's Success

The national award assessment is rigorous, based on seven critical parameters that measure a state's comprehensive approach to energy conservation. Karnataka's performance was evaluated across:

  • Cross-sector energy efficiency programmes
  • Promotion of energy-efficient buildings
  • Implementation of efficiency measures in agriculture
  • Initiatives in municipal and transport services
  • Performance of electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs)
  • Adoption of efficiency in the industrial sector

Commenting on the achievement, State Energy Minister KJ George emphasized the critical role of such measures. "Energy-efficient measures are crucial in combating climate change and global warming. We are happy that Karnataka has regained and maintained its leadership position," he stated.

Sustained Commitment to a Greener Future

The state's administrative machinery reiterated its unwavering focus on this agenda. Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy), highlighted the government's strong commitment to energy conservation and green energy initiatives. He pointed out that the focus remains steadfast on improving energy efficiency across all sectors while simultaneously working to create greater public awareness about sustainable energy practices.

This award marks a robust response to the stiff competition from Maharashtra and solidifies Karnataka's reputation as a pioneer in India's energy conservation landscape. The victory is not just about an award; it reflects a systematic, multi-sectoral governance approach aimed at building a sustainable and energy-efficient future for the state.
