In a significant move to promote digital adoption in public transport, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation's (TNSTC) Kumbakonam division honoured its top-performing bus conductors on Monday. The conductors were recognised for recording the highest number of cashless transactions using electronic ticketing machines.
Awards for Digital Pioneers
K Dasarathan, the Managing Director of the Kumbakonam division, personally felicitated the award-winning conductors from the division's six zones. The ceremony highlighted their dedicated efforts in encouraging passengers to opt for digital payment methods, including UPI and card transactions, over cash.
The honoured conductors are:
- S Kalaiyarasan from the Kumbakonam zone
- P Mathivanan from the Nagapattinam zone
- D Raja from the Trichy zone
- S Nandakumar from the Karur zone
- P Kalaivanan from the Pudukkottai zone
- C Govindaraj from the Karaikudi zone
Push for Complete Digital Shift
During the event, MD K Dasarathan made a strong appeal to all conductors. He urged them to actively educate passengers about the available cashless ticketing options right before the commencement of every journey. Dasarathan emphasised that such consistent, on-the-spot awareness initiatives are crucial. He believes they can dramatically accelerate the transition towards complete digital transactions among daily commuters.
Financial Aid for Employee Families
In a separate but equally important segment of the programme, the division extended support to its staff and their families. A total financial aid of Rs 27 lakh was distributed to 15 families from the Kumbakonam and Nagapattinam zones.
The beneficiaries included families of retired employees, current staff members who sustained injuries in accidents, and the kin of those who tragically lost their lives while on duty. This gesture underscored the corporation's commitment to the welfare of its workforce beyond their professional contributions.
The dual focus of the event—rewarding digital innovation and supporting employee welfare—paints a comprehensive picture of the division's efforts to modernise services while caring for its human resources.
