GB Pant University Vice-Chancellor Honored with National Dairy Science Award

In a significant recognition of academic and research excellence, Prof Manmohan Singh Chauhan, the Vice-Chancellor of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT) in Rudrapur, has been conferred with the prestigious Prof MR Srinivasan Memorial Lecture & Oration Award. The honor was presented during the 52nd Dairy Industry Conference held in New Delhi from February 12 to 14.

Award and Cash Prize for Outstanding Contributions

The award ceremony, organized by the Indian Dairy Association, included a cash prize of Rs 50,000 for Prof Chauhan. This recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to the fields of dairy science and agricultural research, which have had a profound impact on India's agricultural sector.

University Achievements Under Prof Chauhan's Leadership

Since assuming office on August 29, 2022, Prof Chauhan has overseen remarkable progress at GBPUAT. Key milestones achieved during his tenure include:

  • The university climbed 152 places in the QS World University Rankings by subject, now holding the 209th position globally.
  • It earned an 'A' rating from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's peer review team, underscoring its academic rigor.
  • A total of 4,809 students graduated across three convocations, contributing to the skilled workforce in agriculture.
  • Researchers developed 15 new crop varieties and secured 19 patents, advancing agricultural innovation.

Infrastructure and Outreach Initiatives

Under Prof Chauhan's guidance, GBPUAT has also seen significant infrastructure enhancements, such as:

  1. The establishment of the General Bipin Singh Rawat School of Hill Agriculture, focusing on specialized agricultural practices.
  2. Construction of a 225-bed hostel to accommodate more students.
  3. Implementation of wellness facilities and enhanced surveillance systems for campus safety.

Additionally, the university organized five All India Farmers Fairs, attracting participation from 98,500 farmers. These events generated approximately Rs 3 crore through seed and plant sales, fostering direct engagement with the farming community.

The three-day Dairy Industry Conference served as a crucial platform for dialogue on dairy innovation, collaboration, and growth in India. It brought together industry experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss strategies for enhancing the dairy sector's productivity and sustainability.
