The 13-year-old prodigy was felicitated in the city during a special visit, receiving accolades for bringing global glory to his roots in Telangana.

Fresh from his historic victory in May, Faizan Zaki was honoured for correctly spelling the complex French word 'eclaircissement', which means an enlightening explanation. This feat earned him the coveted title at one of the world's most renowned academic competitions. The felicitation event served as a heartfelt tribute from his ancestral homeland.
Dedicating his monumental win to his parents, Faizan openly credited their unwavering support and immense sacrifices throughout his demanding seven-year journey in the world of spelling bees. His father, Anwar Zaki, hails from Khammam in Telangana, while his mother, Dr. Arshia Quadri, is an alumna of Hyderabad's Gandhi Medical College. Although born and raised in the US, Faizan's deep connection to India was palpable during the celebrations.

The family's decision to travel to India was driven by the overwhelming wave of appreciation Faizan received from across the nation. "We wanted him to meet people who supported and celebrated his achievement from afar," shared his father, Anwar Zaki. The visit included a joyous family gathering in Moinabad, where relatives personally congratulated the young champion, making the triumph a collective celebration.
Dr. Altaf Akbar, a family friend, emphasized that Faizan's success is a point of immense pride not just for his family but for the entire Hyderabad and Telangana community. "His parents made immense sacrifices. It is special that someone with roots in the state represented it on such a global platform," he remarked. He also highlighted the significant recognition back in the US, noting that the Texas government had symbolically referred to 2025 as "Faizan's year."
