Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently offered a rare and heartfelt glimpse into his personal life, discussing the significant relationships that have shaped his journey. At a public event, the actor spoke with remarkable candour about the enduring bonds he shares with his former spouses, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, and reflected on finding love again with his current partner, Gauri Spratt.
A Legacy of Love and Respect: Aamir on His Ex-Wives
During the session, Aamir Khan emphasised the profound harmony and mutual respect that define his relationships with both Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao. He firmly believes that the end of a marriage does not necessitate the end of a human connection. Speaking about his first wife, Reena Dutta, whom he married in 1986, Aamir expressed deep admiration.
"It shows we are good people," he stated, referring to their continued positive relationship. "Reena is an amazing person. We fell apart as husband and wife, but that doesn’t mean we fell apart as human beings. There’s a lot of love and respect for her in my heart." The couple, who share children Junaid and Ira, separated in 2002 after 16 years together.
His sentiments for his second wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, were equally warm. The couple tied the knot in 2005, welcomed son Azad Rao Khan in 2011, and announced their separation in 2021, framing it as a shift from marriage to a committed friendship and co-parenting partnership. "It’s the same with Kiran. She is an amazing person, and we decided to part ways as husband and wife, but we are family," Aamir explained. He painted a picture of an extended, supportive family unit that includes both his ex-wives and their parents.
Unexpected Love: Aamir Finds a Partner in Gauri Spratt
The actor also opened up about his current romantic chapter with Gauri Spratt, whom he publicly introduced as his partner on his 60th birthday earlier this year. Aamir revealed that their relationship took him by surprise, arriving at a time when he had nearly given up on finding a life partner.
"No, I didn't. I had reached a point where I thought I probably would never find someone who could be my partner. I wasn’t expecting it," he admitted. He described Gauri, a long-time acquaintance of 25 years whom he has been dating for over two years, as a source of calm and steadiness. "She’s a really amazing person, and I am so fortunate and lucky to have met her." Gauri, who has a six-year-old son, now works with Aamir Khan Productions.
Aamir expressed immense gratitude for all three women, acknowledging their profound impact on his life. "I am very fortunate that while my marriages didn’t work, I am still very happy to have met Reena, Kiran and now Gauri in my life. They have contributed to me as a person in a very big way and I look up to them in many ways."
