Aamir Khan Sets Record Straight on Murshidabad Meeting with Arijit Singh
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has finally addressed the swirling speculation surrounding his recent visit to playback singer Arijit Singh in Murshidabad. Contrary to widespread fan theories, Khan has clarified that his trip was not an emergency mission to dissuade Singh from quitting playback singing for films.
Dispelling the Rumors: Aamir's Official Statement
In a candid interview with veteran journalist Subhash K Jha, Aamir Khan directly refuted the popular narrative. "I wasn't there to convince Arijit not to quit singing for films," Khan stated emphatically. He acknowledged the timing of his visit, which coincided with Arijit's public announcement about stepping away from playback singing, led many to connect the dots incorrectly.
"Though I did try my best to persuade him to reconsider, it was in vain. He seems to have made up his mind," Khan admitted, confirming that while he did attempt to discuss the decision, Arijit Singh appeared resolute in his choice.
The Real Purpose: Film Commitments and 'Ek Din'
Aamir Khan revealed the genuine reason for his presence in Murshidabad was strictly professional, related to his upcoming production 'Ek Din'. The film, which stars his son Junaid Khan alongside Sai Pallavi, is directed by Sunil Pandey and is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026.
"I was there for his rendering of the Ek Din songs," Khan explained. He detailed that Arijit Singh had a prior commitment to the project, which Khan convinced him to honor. "I convinced him to sing for my sake. He is singing for Junaid's character. Since Ek Din was an earlier commitment, he wanted to complete it."
The actor-producer confirmed that the film features five songs, all of which are sung by Arijit Singh, showcasing his vocal prowess for what may be one of his final playback projects.
Warm Praise and Personal Moments
Aamir Khan could not contain his admiration for Arijit Singh's talent, expressing both professional and personal appreciation. "Such a talent! And it's so sad for films, and for all of us who are his fans," he remarked, highlighting the potential loss to the industry.
Khan also shared heartwarming details about his time with Singh's family and team, describing the experience as magical. He posted a picture with the singer on social media, accompanied by a note: "Thank you, Arijit, for lending your voice to our film 'Ek Din'. The 4 days spent with you, your family and your team felt magical. Love, a."
This clarification from Aamir Khan not only puts to rest the rumors but also underscores the collaborative spirit and mutual respect within the Bollywood fraternity, even amidst significant career decisions.
