Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has expressed gratitude to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his support following an alleged attack by a mob in West Bengal's Sonarpur. In response to Gandhi's post on social media platform X, Banerjee described himself as a victim of political violence and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of using intimidation tactics against its opponents. He affirmed his commitment to continue fighting for the protection of democracy and constitutional values.
Rahul Gandhi Condemns Attack
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had condemned the incident, calling it an assault on democracy and a reflection of the BJP's politics of vendetta. His statement came after Banerjee was reportedly targeted with stones, shoes, and eggs while visiting the family of a man allegedly killed in post-poll violence in South 24 Parganas district.
Mamata Banerjee's Response
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee revealed that several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, had contacted her after the incident. She emphasized the unity among opposition parties in condemning such acts of violence.
The attack on Banerjee has sparked widespread condemnation from political circles, with many viewing it as an escalation of political tensions in the state. Banerjee's response underscores the growing rift between the TMC and BJP, as well as the solidarity among opposition parties against what they perceive as authoritarian tactics.
