Adivi Sesh's 'Dacoit' Release Date Shifted to Avoid Box Office Clash with 'Dhurandhar'
In a strategic move, actor Adivi Sesh has announced that his upcoming love-revenge action drama 'Dacoit' will now hit theaters on April 10, instead of its original March 19 release date. The decision was made to steer clear of a direct confrontation with the highly anticipated Ranveer Singh starrer 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', directed by Aditya Dhar.
Festival Release Plans Altered Due to Competition
According to a recent PTI report, Adivi Sesh explained that the film was initially scheduled to release during the Ugadi festival, which marks the Telugu New Year. "We were going to release it on March 19, and for the South version, the occasion of Ugadi is good," Sesh stated. However, he noted that securing proper showcasing became a challenge due to the overwhelming presence of 'Dhurandhar'.
"But we were not getting proper showcasing because of my friend, Aditya Dhar's phenomenal 'Dhurandhar'," he added, highlighting the impact of the competing film on theater allocations.
Confidence in New Release Date
The actor expressed optimism about the new date, emphasizing that the change was driven by practical considerations. "We thought we should find the right showcasing, and when we were confident from our distributors about the April 10 release date and getting theatres and screen timing, that is when we announced the new date," Sesh remarked. This move aims to ensure 'Dacoit' receives adequate visibility and audience access without being overshadowed.
Comparing 'Dhurandhar' to IPL Phenomenon
In a striking analogy, Adivi Sesh compared the success of 'Dhurandhar' to the Indian Premier League (IPL), suggesting it has become a cultural phenomenon. "I think it ('Dhurandhar' running in theatres) will go on for another three-four months and should continue to run. It's like IPL, these things are like phenomena that influence the entire culture," he observed.
Despite this, Sesh believes there is room for diverse cinema. "However, there's room for different kinds of cinema, and those who are not getting tickets for 'Dhurandhar' can come and watch our film, 'Dacoit'," he proposed, positioning his film as an alternative for moviegoers.
Details About 'Dacoit'
'Dacoit' marks the directorial debut of Shaneil Deo and features a star-studded cast including Mrunal Thakur and Anurag Kashyap. The plot centers on Adivi Sesh's character, who appears to escape from prison to seek revenge on his ex-girlfriend, portrayed by Mrunal Thakur. The film has been shot in both Telugu and Hindi, targeting a worldwide audience with its April 10 release.
This release strategy underscores the competitive nature of the film industry, where timing and market dynamics play crucial roles in a movie's success. Fans of action dramas and Adivi Sesh can now mark their calendars for April 10 to experience this highly anticipated cinematic offering.
