Agnihotri's Operation Sindoor Film Draws from Lt Gen Dhillon's Book

Vivek Agnihotri's Next Project Confirmed as Operation Sindoor Film Adaptation

Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has officially confirmed that his next cinematic venture will be based on Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India's Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan, a book authored by Lt Gen KJS 'Tiny' Dhillon. This announcement clarifies earlier speculation about the film's subject, which centers on India's military response to the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam.

Beyond Headlines: A Story of Strategy and Sacrifice

In an exclusive statement to Hindustan Times, Agnihotri emphasized that the film aims to transcend mere news coverage by delving into the operation's intricate details. "I have always believed in telling stories that are uncomfortable but necessary," he said. "My effort is to bring this story of courage, professionalism, and strategic clarity to audiences with authenticity, while also presenting it as an edge-of-the-seat cinematic experience." The narrative will specifically chronicle the events from May 6 to May 10, 2025, offering a comprehensive portrayal of how the mission unfolded.

Research-Driven Production with Major Backing

The project is being developed as a research-intensive narrative, backed by I Am Buddha Production and T-Series, led by Bhushan Kumar. Agnihotri revealed extensive collaboration with multiple wings of the Armed Forces to ensure accuracy. "We have conducted ground-level research to understand not just what happened, but how and why it happened," he explained. "What emerges is far more complex and precise than what's available in the public domain."

Bhushan Kumar echoed this sentiment, describing the film as a significant historical documentation rather than just entertainment. "Some stories are not chosen; they choose you. Operation Sindoor is one such story," he stated. "When a nation goes through events of such magnitude, it becomes important to document them truthfully."

Continuation of Real-Life Inspired Storytelling

This film follows Agnihotri's recent work, The Bengal Files, which concluded his investigative trilogy after The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files. With Operation Sindoor, he returns to his signature style of blending real events with cinematic storytelling, aiming to spark conversations around recent history. While casting choices and release timelines remain undisclosed, more details are expected in the coming months.

The project underscores Agnihotri's commitment to narratives that challenge and inform, positioning it as a timely addition to Bollywood's landscape of politically and historically charged films.
