Bollywood power couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol have sparked conversations about modern relationships with their contrasting perspectives on love and marriage. While Kajol recently suggested that marriages should come with an expiry date, her husband of 26 years believes that unconditional love is only possible with pets.
Generation Gap in Understanding Love
During a promotional interview for their film De De Pyaar De 2, Ajay Devgn expressed concerns about how younger generations perceive love. He was accompanied by co-star R Madhavan during the conversation with BookMyShow's YouTube channel in November 2025.
Ajay shared his observation that love has become more casual than it was in his generation. He emphasized that the word 'love' has been overused to the point where it has lost its original meaning and depth.
"From where I see, it has become more casual than what it was," the actor stated. "The word love has been used so much unnecessarily that it has lost its meaning. In our generation, you reached a point where you said 'I love you'. Before that, it was whatever it was, 'like you' or whatever."
Madhavan's Pet Love Comparison
R Madhavan supported Ajay's viewpoint and took the discussion further by comparing modern love to the affection people show their pets. He expressed hope that younger generations could experience the same comfort and satisfaction in relationships that his generation enjoyed.
"Nowadays, you can compare that to the crazy love you feel for your pets, which is unconditional," Madhavan noted. "I wish you could feel it for another human being."
However, Ajay was quick to interject with a crucial distinction. He argued that unconditional love between humans isn't possible in the same way it exists with pets because animals don't make demands.
"The problem is that you love your pets because you know that they won't ask for anything in return," Ajay explained, highlighting the transactional nature that often creeps into human relationships.
Kajol's Controversial Marriage Theory
Meanwhile, Kajol has been expressing quite different views about long-term partnerships. On her show Two Much, the actress proposed that marriages should come with an expiry date to prevent people from feeling trapped in unhappy unions.
"What says you will get married to the right person at the right time? So, you should have a renewal option," Kajol reasoned. "And if there's an expiry date, then we don't have to suffer for too long."
This isn't the first time Kajol has shared unconventional wisdom about making marriages work. In an earlier interview with Mashable India, she revealed that "partial deafness and selective amnesia" were her secrets to maintaining a happy marriage with Ajay Devgn.
The couple, who have been married for over 26 years, continue to navigate their relationship in the public eye while maintaining individual perspectives on what makes partnerships successful in the modern era.
