Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has shared his unconventional views on retirement, stating that a person should retire only a few seconds before death and must continue working to ensure a long and fulfilling life.
Akshay Kumar on Retirement and Work Ethic
Speaking at the trailer launch event of his upcoming film Welcome to the Jungle in Mumbai on Thursday, Akshay Kumar emphasized the importance of staying active and dedicated to one's profession. When asked about retiring from acting after a career spanning over three decades, he revealed that the thought occasionally crosses his mind but is quickly overshadowed by his ingrained discipline.
“Yes, I do think about retirement, but after five seconds, I remember I have to go for a shooting. So it happens for five seconds. Then I think I'll retire the next day. Then I wake up at 4 in the morning and it repeats. So, 36 years have passed by doing this,” he said.
The actor also humorously listed the household chores he would take up if he retired, including being an electrician, dog walker, or gardener. He concluded that working is far better than retiring.
Advice to Fans: Keep Working
Akshay Kumar urged his fans to keep working for a long life and retire only when on their deathbed. “Honestly, I think the word is wrong: retire. A person should retire only when they have five seconds left to die. While dying, he'll say, 'Brother, I'm retiring.' That will be better. Don't worry about retirement. Keep working. If you want a long life, keep working,” he advised.
