Amrit Kashyap on Bollywood's Long Race: From Actor to Writer-Director
Amrit Kashyap, who made his notable Bollywood debut with the hit film 'Chhichhore', has opened up about the entertainment industry's demanding nature, emphasizing that success requires immense patience and persistence rather than quick wins. In a recent interview, the actor described his career journey as a long race, where navigating inconsistent opportunities and frequent rejections forced him to rethink his entire approach to work and professional growth.
Developing Storytelling Skills During Downtime
During phases of limited acting work, Kashyap chose to focus intensely on honing his storytelling abilities. A graduate of the prestigious Whistling Woods International film school, he revealed to Mid-Day that writing has always been a core strength. "When I was studying in film school, I took screenwriting as an elective because I wanted to deeply understand how films are written and produced from the ground up," Kashyap explained. What began as a simple learning exercise gradually transformed into a serious creative pursuit, with the actor now actively working on a full-fledged script for his own project.
Upcoming Personal Film Project
Kashyap disclosed that his upcoming cinematic venture draws heavily from his own life experiences, making it an intensely personal endeavor. Initially conceived as a multi-part series, the idea has evolved through multiple revisions into a feature film format. Explaining this strategic shift, he said, "It is based on my life, so it's very personal. There were several instances where production houses did not want to cast me in lead roles. I understood that they might be hesitant to invest heavily in me as a solo lead. So, I pivoted and pitched it as an ensemble project with seven other lead characters." He added that discussions are already underway with prominent production houses, although specific details remain confidential at this stage.
Creating Opportunities Through Writing and Directing
Acknowledging the significant challenges of securing lead roles in a competitive industry, Kashyap is now proactively creating his own opportunities. "I want to write, direct, and produce to generate opportunities for myself," he shared, highlighting his ambitious plan to take charge of his creative path instead of passively waiting for roles to come his way. This shift represents a broader trend among actors seeking greater control over their careers in Bollywood's evolving landscape.
Career Portfolio and Diverse Projects
Beyond his breakthrough role in 'Chhichhore', Amrit Kashyap has built a diverse portfolio across multiple entertainment mediums:
- Television Shows: He has appeared in popular series like 'Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji' and 'Divya Drishti'.
- Films: His filmography includes projects such as '36 Farmhouse' and 'Dil Se Nafrat'.
- Digital Platforms: Kashyap also featured in 'Tuition Ke Baad', steadily expanding his presence across films and streaming platforms.
This varied body of work demonstrates his adaptability and commitment to growing as a performer while exploring new creative avenues in India's dynamic entertainment industry.
