Ayushmann Khurrana Shares Emotional Reaction
Ayushmann Khurrana used social media to express how deeply the film affected him. Alongside a video, he wrote a lengthy message appreciating director Imtiaz Ali and everyone associated with the project. Extending birthday wishes to the filmmaker, Ayushmann wrote, "Happy birthday @imtiazaliofficial sir. Thank you for giving us #MainVaapasAaongaa Such a nostalgia laden poignant relevant film. It's going to be remembered as a classic. Thank you for inspiring us to opt for pure art over everything else. My grandfather also belonged to sargodha and I could literally see the hardships of our forefathers in front of my eyes. Being a partition geek I couldn't stop my tears from flowing like the rivers of Punjab. It's like a classic novel where characters come alive, where story is laced with analogies and metaphors. Thank you @naseeruddin49 saab, @diljitdosanjh bhaaji, @sharva and @vedangraina (pls keep singing bro) and the entire cast and crew for being a part of this emotional opus. Thank you @arrahman sir for the music. @irshadkamilofficial bhai I'm your proud junior from the mass comm dept of Panjab University chandigarh. Here's my rendition of very sublime @vipinanejaofficial ji's version. #tribute."
Ensemble Cast and Themes
Main Vaapas Aaunga brings together a talented ensemble cast led by Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, Sharvari and Banita Sandhu. The film explores themes of memory, identity, love and displacement against a larger historical backdrop. ETimes awarded the film 3.5 stars out of 5 and the review stated, "The first half feels plodding, and at two hours and forty-six minutes, the runtime seems overstretched. The slow pace of this love story may not work for everyone, but those who enjoy Ali's sweeping, cinematic storytelling will find enough to immerse themselves in. While the frequent transitions between 1947 and the present day can occasionally be challenging to keep track of. While Keenu and Jiya's love track is beautifully portrayed, Nirvair's equation with Kaveri (Banita Sandhu) does not create the same impact. A sequence about Nirvair discussing crop burning and working on a machine that can turn husk into fertiliser feels out of place. His attempts at stand-up comedy while talking about Partition also seem tonally odd."
Box Office Performance
