Bad Bunny's Super Bowl Halftime Show Dominates Viewership Over TPUSA's Alternative Event
The 2026 Super Bowl halftime show featured a stark contrast between mainstream entertainment and political counter-programming. While Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny delivered a headline-grabbing performance for the official event, the conservative organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA) ran its own "All-American Halftime Show" as an alternative.
TPUSA's Last-Minute Streaming Shift and Lineup
Now led by Erika Kirk, wife of the late influencer and TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, the organization initially planned to livestream its event across all social media platforms. However, just hours before broadcast, TPUSA announced on X that licensing issues prevented streaming on that platform, redirecting viewers to its YouTube channel instead.
The MAGA-backed alternative show, headlined by Kid Rock, began approximately 20 minutes before the Super Bowl halftime but didn't feature Kid Rock's performance until after Bad Bunny had concluded. The event also included performances by country artists Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett.
Viewership Numbers: A Clear Divide
According to data from multiple streaming platforms, TPUSA's alternative halftime event accumulated over 6 million total views. This included approximately 5 million views on the official TPUSA YouTube channel, 1 million on Charlie Kirk's YouTube channel, 220,000 on TPUSA's Rumble stream, 200,000 on Magno News' YouTube, and 15,000 on Kirk's Rumble channel.
In contrast, early estimates suggest Bad Bunny's 13-minute Super Bowl performance may have shattered records with over 130 million viewers. While official 2026 figures are pending, this would surpass both Kendrick Lamar's 133.5 million viewers in 2025 and Usher's 123.4 million in 2024, potentially making it the most-watched halftime show in history.
Public Opinion and Political Divides
A YouGov poll conducted just before the Super Bowl revealed clear preferences along political lines. Overall, 35% of Americans preferred Bad Bunny's halftime show compared to 28% favoring TPUSA's event.
The breakdown showed:
- Republican respondents: 55% chose TPUSA's Kid Rock show, while 13% preferred Bad Bunny
- Democratic respondents: 63% supported Bad Bunny, with only 7% opting for the conservative alternative
Additionally, 34% of those surveyed expressed satisfaction with Bad Bunny as the halftime performer, while 26% were dissatisfied.
Bad Bunny's Spectacular Performance Elements
The Latin superstar's performance featured multiple memorable segments including a real-life wedding ceremony, appearances by Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, and Pedro Pascal, recognition of his Grammy award, and a display of Latin American flags. The production showcased both cultural pride and mainstream entertainment appeal that resonated with the massive television audience.
The YouGov poll combined responses from two surveys with significant sample sizes: 3,023 American adults surveyed on February 4 (margin of error 2%) and 7,305 adults surveyed February 5-6 (margin of error approximately 1.5%).
While TPUSA successfully mobilized its conservative base with the alternative programming, the viewership gap between the two events highlights the continuing dominance of mainstream Super Bowl entertainment over politically-oriented counter-programming.
