Haryana Women's Commission Takes Strict Action Against Rapper Badshah

The Haryana State Commission for Women has escalated its legal action against popular rapper Badshah, issuing arrest orders after the artist failed to appear before the panel regarding controversial lyrics in his recently released Haryanvi music video Tateeree. This development marks a significant intensification in the ongoing controversy surrounding the song's content.

Commission Issues Arrest Directive and Passport Seizure Order

Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia confirmed that authorities have been instructed to take immediate action against the rapper. "I have ordered SP Panipat to get Badshah arrested from anywhere, any place and issue search orders," Bhatia told reporters in Panipat. She further directed that his passport should be seized to prevent him from leaving the country, emphasizing that the commission had previously warned of strict consequences if Badshah did not appear within the stipulated timeframe.

The commission had issued a formal notice requiring Badshah to appear before it in Panipat by 3 pm on Friday. When the rapper failed to attend the scheduled hearing, the panel decided to implement its threatened measures, demonstrating its commitment to addressing complaints about the song's content.

Multiple FIRs Registered Over Alleged Offensive Content

Police have already registered First Information Reports in connection with the controversial song, with cases filed in both Panchkula and Jind districts. The legal charges are substantial, including:

  • Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986
  • Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to obscene acts and songs

According to official statements, the music video allegedly contains objectionable lyrics and visuals that insult women and girls. Authorities have expressed particular concern about scenes depicting minor girls wearing school uniforms and discarding their school bags. Officials claim that certain words used in the song present the school environment and education in a misleading and potentially harmful manner.

Badshah's Response and Legal Proceedings

Amid the growing controversy, Badshah shared a video on his official Instagram account apologizing if the song had hurt anyone's sentiments. His legal representative stated that the rapper's team had approached the commission seeking additional time to appear, claiming the summons had not been received earlier and that they had submitted an authority letter on the singer's behalf.

"Under the law, everyone has the right to present their side. But here that is not being given," the lawyer told reporters. He confirmed that the music video had been removed from YouTube as the legal process continues. Meanwhile, police had begun procedures to issue a look-out circular against the rapper to prevent him from leaving the country.

Support from Social Media Personality

Badshah received public support from social media personality Santy Sharma, who shared a photo of the rapper on Instagram and discussed the nature of hip-hop music. Sharma argued that rap music often involves competitive references and that video production teams operate separately from artists, suggesting Badshah might not have been fully aware of the final video content.

Sharma wrote about what he described as "a major drawback to Badshah and other artists emerging in India today" - the lack of understanding among Indian listeners about hip-hop as an art form. He suggested that if lyrics were problematic, they should be updated or changed, but criticized what he saw as premature judgment without understanding the full context of artistic creation.

The case continues to develop as legal authorities pursue the commission's directives while Badshah's legal team prepares its defense strategy. The controversy highlights ongoing tensions between artistic expression, cultural sensitivities, and legal boundaries in India's entertainment landscape.
