Rapper Badshah Faces Police Interrogation Over Controversial 'Tateeree' Music Video in Panchkula
Renowned rapper Aditya Pratik Singh Sisodia, widely known by his stage name Badshah, presented himself before the Panchkula police on Thursday for a detailed interrogation. This appearance is linked to a First Information Report (FIR) filed concerning his recently released and highly contentious song and music video titled "Tateeree." The case, registered at the Cyber Police Station in Sector-20, Panchkula, on March 6, invokes Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
Interrogation Details and Bail Release
According to authoritative police sources, Badshah underwent a thorough questioning session by the investigating officers. Following the interrogation, he was formally released on bail. A senior police officer clarified the legal stance, stating, "The offences mentioned in the FIR were bailable. After completing the necessary bail procedures, he was permitted to leave the premises." This development underscores the procedural aspects of the case, highlighting that the charges, while serious, currently fall under bailable provisions.
Contentious Elements of the 'Tateeree' Video
The "Tateeree" music video has ignited significant public and legal scrutiny due to several provocative elements. Police reports indicate that the video portrays young girls dressed in school uniforms discarding their school bags and fleeing from their educational environment. The use of the term "badshala" within the lyrics has been criticized for misrepresenting schools and their academic atmosphere. Furthermore, the song allegedly incorporates objectionable and indecent language directed towards women and girls, contributing to widespread allegations of vulgarity and inappropriateness.
Linguistic and Cultural Context of 'Tateeree'
The term "Tateeree" originates from the Haryanvi language, referring to the grey francolin, a bird commonly found in the rural regions of North India. Despite this cultural reference, the controversy primarily revolves around the lyrical interpretation and visual presentation in the music video, which many viewers and authorities deem offensive and disrespectful.
Investigative Focus on Permissions and Depictions
During the ongoing investigation, police have uncovered additional details raising questions about proper authorizations. The video features a Haryana Roadways bus from the Jind depot, prompting inquiries into whether requisite permissions were secured from the relevant transport department for its use. Similarly, the depiction of a government school campus has led to scrutiny over whether competent authorities granted approval for the shooting at that location.
Legal Actions and Content Removal
Prior to Badshah's appearance, the Panchkula police issued a formal notice mandating his immediate presence for questioning. In a proactive measure, authorities have removed the "Tateeree" song from the associated YouTube channel. Notices have also been disseminated to various social media platforms, instructing the removal of the video to curb the dissemination of the alleged objectionable content. The police have issued a stern warning, emphasizing that any individual found creating or sharing reels or videos related to this controversial song will face stringent legal action.
Apology and Summons from National Commission for Women
As public backlash against the song intensified, Badshah publicly apologized for the content, acknowledging the concerns raised. Concurrently, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned both Badshah and the creators of the "Tateeree" track to address the allegations of indecent representation and ensure accountability in the matter.
