Paramvir Cheema Addresses Typecast Concerns Before Border 2 Premiere

Actor Paramvir Singh Cheema has candidly revealed his apprehensions about being stereotyped before accepting his role in the highly anticipated war drama Border 2. In an exclusive interview, Cheema shared his journey from doubt to determination as he prepares to portray Subedar Nishaan Singh in this star-studded film.

Initial Doubts and Typecasting Fears

Cheema admitted that when he first heard about the project, he was excited but also worried. "When I heard the name Border, I obviously liked it as it's a big film. But I also had a doubt that I might get lost amid all the big stars," he confessed. The actor, who has previously worn a turban in films like Tabber and Black Warrant, expressed concern about being pigeonholed into similar roles. "I didn't want people to see me in only turban roles where there's a lot more," he emphasized, highlighting his desire for diverse acting opportunities.

Meeting with Director and Army Background

These concerns led Cheema to have a crucial meeting with director Anurag Singh, where he openly discussed his fears. This honest conversation ultimately resulted in his selection for the film. Cheema also drew upon his personal history to connect with his character. "I come from an army background. My great-grandfather and many of them were in the army. They also served during World War II," he shared. This heritage added a layer of responsibility, as he felt the need to honor the film's patriotic themes and the sacrifices of soldiers accurately.

Working with Sunny Deol: A Surreal Experience

Cheema described his experience working with veteran actor Sunny Deol as "surreal". Although their scenes together were limited, he acknowledged Deol's iconic status in the Border franchise. "There is no 'Border' without Sunny Deol," he stated, recalling the emotional impact of seeing Deol's solo frame during filming. The actor spent approximately 30-32 days shooting with Deol, an experience he says is unforgettable.

Varun Dhawan's Encouragement and On-Set Dynamics

Sharing the screen with Varun Dhawan brought its own set of surprises for Cheema. He initially worried about potential star tantrums but was pleasantly surprised by Dhawan's professionalism and warmth. "He was our boss in the film," Cheema noted, adding that Dhawan even praised his performance in Black Warrant. "He used to tell me, 'I like your work a lot, Param'," Cheema recalled, highlighting the supportive environment on set.

Border 2: A Star-Studded Ensemble

The upcoming war drama features an impressive cast including:

  • Sunny Deol
  • Varun Dhawan

  • Diljit Dosanjh

Cheema's role as Subedar Nishaan Singh adds depth to this ensemble, marking a significant step in his career. The film is set to premiere in theaters on January 23, promising audiences a powerful narrative of patriotism and valor.
