Charlie Cox Shuts Down Rumors of Daredevil Cameo in Upcoming Spider-Man Film
Since the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiered on Wednesday, fans have been buzzing with excitement over the return of beloved characters. However, speculation quickly turned to whether another Marvel star, Charlie Cox, would join the cast. The actor, famous for his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again, has now addressed these rumors directly.
How the Speculation Began
During an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, host Jimmy Kimmel seized the opportunity to question Cox about his potential involvement in the new Spider-Man film. The speculation had intensified earlier that day with the release of the first Brand New Day trailer, which features Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, encountering familiar faces like Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher.
Kimmel initiated the interrogation by asking Cox if he had seen the trailer yet. Cox, who had traveled from New York, where Daredevil films, to Los Angeles for the show, replied, "No, because it was today, right? I haven't seen it. I'm sorry, I haven't seen it."
Is Charlie Cox Part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Kimmel praised the trailer as "fantastic" before getting straight to the point. "You're not in it," he stated. "Are you in the movie?" Cox responded with a smile, "No." When Kimmel pressed further, saying, "You say no? Okay," Cox clarified humorously, "If I was in the movie, I would also say no, to be clear. But I'm not in the movie."
The actor, known for his role in Stardust, acknowledged that he "could be lying" about his casting but reiterated firmly, "I'm not in the film." Kimmel continued to probe, asking, "You're saying you're not in the movie?" to which Cox replied, "I'm definitely not in the movie. I'm not lying."
Cox did note that his character made a cameo appearance as Peter Parker's lawyer in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home, adding context to the fan theories. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, promising more superhero action and surprises.
This clarification comes amid high anticipation for the film, which has already generated significant buzz with its star-studded trailer. Fans will have to wait until its release to see if any hidden cameos, including Cox's, are revealed.
