Chiranjeevi's Past Comments on Legacy Spark Debate as Ram Charan Welcomes Twins

Celebrations are in full swing in the Konidela family as Telugu superstar Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Kamineni have been blessed with twins. The joyous occasion, however, has been accompanied by a resurgence of old comments made by Ram Charan's father, legendary actor Chiranjeevi, regarding his desire for a male heir to continue the family legacy.

Lavanya Tripathi Steps Forward to Defend Family Patriarch

Amid the online discussions, actress Lavanya Tripathi has emerged as a vocal defender of Chiranjeevi. Taking to social media platform X, Lavanya expressed her disappointment with those criticizing the megastar during what should be a happy family moment.

"I usually ignore tweets like this and let them pass on my timeline, but I didn't expect it from you," Lavanya wrote in her response to a journalist's now-deleted post. "This tweet is in extremely poor taste, turning a genuinely happy moment into something unpleasant."

Lavanya, who is married to Varun Tej (son of Chiranjeevi's younger brother Nagendra Babu), emphasized that critics don't understand how Chiranjeevi treats the women in his family. "You clearly don't know how he treats the women in his family, especially his granddaughters," she added. "Very few men can do even 1% of what he does, so it's best not to comment on people you don't truly know."

The Controversial Comments That Resurfaced

The comments that sparked this debate originated from Chiranjeevi during the Brahma Anandam pre-release event last year. The megastar had humorously remarked about being surrounded by women in his family.

"When I am at home, it doesn't feel like I am surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I'm a ladies' hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around," Chiranjeevi had said. "I keep wishing and telling Ram Charan, at least this time, to have a boy so that our legacy continues. I'm scared that he might again have a girl, but he has lovely kids."

With Ram Charan now welcoming both a boy and a girl as twins, Chiranjeevi took to X to express his happiness. "With immense joy and a heart full of gratitude, we are happy to share that Ram Charan and Upasana Konidela have been blessed with twins — a baby boy and a baby girl," he wrote. "Both the babies and the mother are healthy and doing well."

Mixed Reactions from Social Media Users

The online discourse has revealed divided opinions:

  • Many users supported Lavanya Tripathi's defense of her family, praising her for speaking up against what they perceived as unfair criticism
  • Some cautioned Lavanya about her "not even 1% of men" remark, suggesting it could be seen as making assumptions about others while asking people not to make assumptions about her family
  • The original criticism came from a journalist who expressed disappointment at what they called "obsession for a baby boy in 2026" and noted that Ram Charan's elder daughter Klin Kaara didn't receive similar attention when she was born

This incident highlights how family celebrations in the public eye can sometimes become entangled with past statements and societal expectations about gender and legacy in Indian families, particularly within the entertainment industry.
