Chris Hemsworth Declares Return to Australia as Life's Best Move
Australian superstar Chris Hemsworth, renowned for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has openly stated that leaving Los Angeles and moving back to his homeland of Australia stands as the greatest decision he has ever made. The 42-year-old actor, currently starring in 'Crime 101', shared that life in Hollywood ceased to feel appropriate, particularly after he and his wife, Elsa Pataky, welcomed their children into the world.
Escaping the Hollywood Hustle for Family Peace
In a candid interview on the 'SmartLess' podcast, as reported by The New York Post, Hemsworth elaborated on his reasons for departing the glamorous yet demanding Hollywood lifestyle. He explained that the timing coincided with the birth of his sons, when he and his family were settled in Los Angeles but found little joy in it. "It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in LA and not enjoying it, you know? Like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else," Hemsworth revealed.
The actor emphasized that returning home to Los Angeles after work did not provide the tranquility he sought. "And then … you’d come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of, you know, living in that space," he added, highlighting the constant attention and intrusive nature of celebrity life in LA. This relentless environment ultimately pushed him to seek a more serene existence back in Australia.
Embracing a Rustic Lifestyle on an Australian Farm
Hemsworth and Pataky, who met in 2010 and married just three months later, have since relocated their family to a spacious farm in Australia. The actor described this move as transformative, offering a holiday-like atmosphere daily. "You know, when you come back from work, you wanna go on a holiday? Like coming home for me is – it feels like a holiday. We have big farm and horses and motorbikes and surf," he shared, contrasting it sharply with his previous life in Los Angeles.
This shift to rural living allows Hemsworth to reconnect with his roots and provide a nurturing environment for his three children, away from the paparazzi and pressures of Hollywood. The farm lifestyle, complete with outdoor activities and natural surroundings, aligns perfectly with his desire for peace and family bonding.
Childhood Adventures and Humble Beginnings
Reflecting on his upbringing, Hemsworth grew up with his brothers, Liam and Luke, approximately 20 minutes outside Melbourne in a secluded, bushland area. He recounted a childhood filled with outdoor explorations and imaginative play. "We lived about 20 minutes from, like, the main sort of suburban areas in Melbourne up in the hills," Hemsworth said. "And the nearest neighbor was a kilometer or two away. It was just all bush land and rainforest sort of set up around us."
These early experiences of adventure and character play, he believes, sparked his initial interest in acting and storytelling. Before embarking on his acting career, Hemsworth held a modest job repairing breast milk pumps for the Australian appliance company Fisher and Paykel. "And they would come back to us, and I’d have to repair them when, like the little belt, the motor belt would break. You’d also have to clean all the dried milk that was on them," he recalled. "So, I’d have a toothbrush and spray and wipe and – that was my first job."
His breakthrough came with roles on Australian television, most notably the long-running soap opera 'Home and Away', which served as a launching pad for his international success. Hemsworth's journey from a rural Australian childhood to Hollywood stardom and back to his roots underscores his commitment to authenticity and family values.
