Dhanush Confronted with Rs 20 Crore Legal Notice from Thenandal Films Over Alleged Project Delays

Tamil superstar Dhanush has reportedly been served a legal notice by Thenandal Films, a prominent production company, seeking a substantial compensation of Rs 20 crore. The notice alleges that the actor delayed a project he committed to in 2016, and he has been given a strict deadline of one week to formulate and submit his official response.

Details of the Legal Dispute and Allegations

According to reports from The Indian Express, the production company claims that Dhanush signed an agreement in 2016 for a film titled 'Naan Rudhran'. However, he later opted out of this project. In what the notice describes as a compensatory move, Dhanush allegedly promised Thenandal Films that he would both direct and star in another film under their banner. Relying on this assurance, the production house invested nearly Rs 20 crore in advance payments and pre-production expenses.

This significant financial outlay included payments made to actors such as Nagarjuna and SJ Suryah, who were slated to be part of the project. The production banner further alleges that the film was stalled midway because Dhanush failed to complete the script. Subsequently, the actor moved on to other projects without fulfilling his commitment to this venture, according to the notice.

Demands and Potential Consequences for Dhanush

The legal notice stipulates that Dhanush must respond within a week, confirming whether he intends to honor the previous agreement by allocating dates to complete the project. If he fails to do so, Thenandal Films demands the repayment of the Rs 20 crore it claims to have spent, along with an additional Rs 1 crore as compensation for damages incurred.

The production house has also warned that it will pursue further legal action if the matter is not settled within the stipulated time frame. As of now, Dhanush has not issued any public statement or response regarding the notice, leaving the entertainment industry and his fans awaiting his side of the story.

Dhanush's Current Work Commitments

Amidst this legal turmoil, Dhanush remains active on the professional front. He is set to appear next in Rajkumar Periasamy's directorial venture, tentatively titled 'D55'. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Sai Pallavi, Mammootty, and Sreelela in pivotal roles. The makers officially commenced production with a puja ceremony earlier this month, signaling a busy schedule for the actor despite the ongoing dispute.

This legal development highlights the complexities and contractual obligations within the film industry, where delays and project cancellations can lead to significant financial and legal repercussions. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for how similar disputes are handled in the future, impacting both production houses and actors alike.
