Dhurandhar 2 Marketing Strategy: A Deliberate Approach to Maintain Anticipation
The upcoming Bollywood blockbuster Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has generated tremendous buzz as one of the most anticipated films of 2026. However, following the release of its first teaser, many viewers expressed disappointment, noting that it showcased nothing new from what was already revealed in the post-credit scene of the original Dhurandhar movie.
The Conscious Marketing Decision
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, the film's marketer, Varun Gupta, addressed the growing questions about the lack of promotional activities for Dhurandhar 2. Gupta revealed that releasing the same footage was a conscious decision by the marketing team, part of a carefully calculated strategy.
"Sometimes the best strategy is not to come in the way of something that is very organic," Gupta explained. "It will be very foolish of us as a team to try and overdo something that is already doing so well."
Strategic Restraint in Film Promotion
Gupta elaborated on the marketing philosophy behind Dhurandhar 2, stating that the existing curiosity and anticipation surrounding the film are already at peak levels. The team believes that "Don't kill the excitement by over-delivering or satisfying the viewer" is a crucial principle guiding their promotional approach.
To illustrate this strategy in simple terms, Gupta used a culinary analogy: "If you are hungry, I will only give you a starter and let you crave for the main course. If your stomach is filled and you are full till the neck, would you still buy the ticket on the first day? No!"
From Risk to Strategy
The marketer acknowledged that opting for a minimal promotions strategy for the first Dhurandhar film was considered a risk. However, for the sequel, this approach has evolved into a deliberate strategy. Gupta clarified that this doesn't mean the makers will completely avoid promoting the movie, but rather maintain a measured approach.
"We didn't try to be desperate then; we won't try to be desperate now," Gupta stated, emphasizing that this restraint stems from confidence in their product rather than overconfidence following the first film's success.
Dhurandhar 2 Production Details
The highly anticipated sequel is directed by Aditya Dhar and features Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The impressive ensemble cast includes veteran actors Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun.
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19, 2026, promising to deliver the action-packed entertainment that fans have been eagerly awaiting since the announcement of the sequel.
This unconventional marketing approach represents a significant shift in how major Bollywood productions manage audience expectations and build anticipation, potentially setting new trends in film promotion strategies within the Indian entertainment industry.
