Veteran Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta, aged 66, passed away on Wednesday in an apparent suicide, according to Kolkata Police. He was rushed to a private hospital in Dhakuria after falling from the terrace of his wife's flat in a multi-storeyed residential building in Hindustan Park.
Incident Details
Police reported that neither family members nor domestic help noticed his entry into the building; only security personnel were aware of his presence. Dutta was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. His body was later sent to SSKM Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police sources confirmed that a purported suicide note was recovered from the terrace, which does not hold anyone responsible for the act. The document has been sent for forensic examination, and the homicide department is assisting the investigation to establish the sequence of events.
Postmortem Findings
Preliminary postmortem findings indicate death due to massive internal and external bleeding with severe head trauma, consistent with a high-impact fall. The autopsy, conducted on Wednesday evening, noted extensive head and brain injuries, including multiple skull fractures, epidural hematoma, and intracranial hemorrhage. Several ribs were fractured, with blood accumulation in the chest cavity, and vital organs including the lungs and liver were ruptured. Injuries to the lower body included fractures to the left leg and hip, along with severe damage to the left waist. External injuries included deep wounds to the head and neck and extensive abrasion marks.
