Tharu Folk Singer Rinku Rana Succumbs to Injuries in Tragic Road Mishap
In a devastating incident that has sent shockwaves through the cultural community, Rinku Rana, a 36-year-old folk singer from the Tharu tribal community, lost her life in a road accident on Thursday. The tragic event occurred in the Sitarganj area of Udham Singh Nagar district, where a speeding tractor-trolley loaded with bricks allegedly rammed into her scooter.
Details of the Fatal Accident
Rana, a resident of Naugaja in Nanakmatta, had visited her parental home in Bichpuri village to celebrate the festival of Holi. On Thursday afternoon, she was returning home on her scooter, accompanied by her niece, Jiya Rana. At approximately 1 PM, a tractor-trolley struck their vehicle, causing severe injuries to both riders.
Local residents promptly rushed the injured to the government hospital in Sitarganj. Medical professionals declared Rinku Rana dead upon arrival, while her niece sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Following the incident, police transferred Rana's body to the sub-district hospital in Khatima for a postmortem examination.
SHO Nanakmatta Umesh Kumar confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Condolences and Tributes Pour In
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed profound grief over the untimely demise of Rinku Rana. In a heartfelt statement, he remarked, "The untimely demise of folk singer Rinku Rana is deeply saddening. Her contribution to preserving the cultural heritage of the Tharu community will always be remembered."
Rana was an integral member of the cultural troupe led by Tharu folk artist Bunty Rana from Khatima. Recognized as one of the emerging voices of the Tharu community, she had performed at numerous state-level cultural programs and served as a co-leader of the group.
Bunty Rana shared, "She was a dedicated folk artist and performed with our troupe at several state-level programmes. She also served as co-leader of the group along with me. Her demise is a great loss not only to her family, but also to the entire community."
Adding to the chorus of condolences, Khatima MLA and deputy leader of opposition Bhuvan Kapri described her death as "a huge loss to the cultural fraternity."

Rinku Rana leaves behind her husband, Mahesh Singh, and their nine-year-old son, Nishant Singh. Her dedication to folk music and her role in promoting Tharu cultural traditions have left an indelible mark on the community.
