Ryan Gosling's Daughters Played a Hidden Role in His New Sci-Fi Movie

Hollywood star Ryan Gosling, known for his roles in films like 'The Fall Guy', has shared a heartwarming behind-the-scenes story from his upcoming sci-fi adventure, 'Project Hail Mary'. While he might not typically bring work home, his two young daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 11, and Amada Lee, 9, became unexpected collaborators during the filming process, adding a personal touch to the movie set to release later this month.

How Gosling's Kids Stepped In During Tough Scenes

In a recent interview with People magazine, the 45-year-old actor explained that his daughters pitched in on some of the more challenging filming days. In 'Project Hail Mary', Gosling portrays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up alone in space with amnesia and must save humanity, aided by an alien named Rocky. During scenes where Rocky's character was involved, Gosling sometimes had to act without a physical co-star present.

"Sometimes when I was working, and I needed to sort of switch things up, or whatever, my kids would come in, and I had an earpiece in my ear, and they would talk for Rocky, so I could talk to them as Rocky," Gosling told People. This improvisation led to genuine moments in the film, such as when Gosling's character grins or laughs, reactions directly inspired by his daughters' off-camera line readings. Notably, while actor James Ortiz provides the official voice for Rocky in the finished product, Gosling's children were instrumental in bringing those interactions to life during production.

Creative Input and Family Inspiration

Gosling further revealed that his daughters have been deeply invested in the movie from early stages. "They've seen so many cuts of the movie," he said, adding that they offered numerous notes and feedback. One memorable instance involved costume selection: when trying on glasses for the role, his daughter commented, "You look smart in glasses," advice Gosling took to heart to enhance his character's portrayal.

In fact, his children were a primary motivation for accepting the role. Speaking to Access Hollywood, Gosling emphasized, "My kids have seen multiple cuts. They give me lots of notes. Honestly, they're the only critics I care about, and they're very honest." He added, "I made this for them. I wanted to make something we could all enjoy as a family, and I feel really lucky I got to do that."

Previous Family Involvement in Gosling's Career

This isn't the first time Gosling's daughters have contributed to his work. During his preparation for the role of Ken in the 2023 blockbuster 'Barbie', they spent months helping him at home, despite initially joking that they had "no use for Ken." They even cheered him on during key filming moments, showcasing their ongoing support and involvement in his professional endeavors.

About 'Project Hail Mary' and Gosling's Family Life

'Project Hail Mary' is a highly anticipated sci-fi film based on Andy Weir's bestselling novel, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It follows Gosling's character as he forms an unlikely friendship with Rocky to save Earth, with a theatrical release scheduled for March 20, 2026. The movie has already generated significant buzz, partly due to this unique family connection.

Regarding his personal life, Gosling and partner Eva Mendes, whom he met while filming 'The Place Beyond the Pines' in 2011, maintain a private family environment. They prioritize their daughters' privacy, allowing them a normal childhood away from the Hollywood spotlight, even as both parents are celebrated figures in the entertainment industry.
