Govinda Reveals Past Attraction to Neelam Kothari in Candid Interview
Govinda, who dominated Bollywood in the 1990s with a string of blockbuster hits, has recently made headlines by openly discussing his past bond with co-star Neelam Kothari. In a revealing conversation, he admitted to being attracted to her during their peak years in the industry, despite being married at the time. This confession sheds light on the romance rumours that often swirled around the duo during their heyday.
Govinda's Frank Admission on His Bond with Neelam
Speaking with interviewer Siddharth Kannan, Govinda addressed the long-standing speculation about an alleged affair with Neelam Kothari. He stated, "See, all of us who are like village folk, we tend to like fair women. This attraction for someone who is the opposite kind, this happens." He further described Neelam as "different and such a good girl" and noted that she looked like a doll, emphasizing her unique charm that captivated him.
Recalling Neelam's Doll-Like Charm and On-Screen Collaboration
Govinda reminisced about admiring Neelam's appeal from afar, recalling how he would watch her films and whistle in appreciation, never imagining they would eventually work together. When they did become co-stars, he found it almost unbelievable. He highlighted the contrast between romance in their era and today, saying, "Back then, affairs were not like how they are today. We would make a lot of noise... Back then, romance was about just looking at each other." He proudly pointed out that their collaborations resulted in hit films and superhit songs, showcasing their successful partnership.
Past Confessions and On-Screen Chemistry
This is not the first time Govinda has expressed his feelings for Neelam. In a 1990 interview with Stardust, he candidly shared, "We had so many films together. We met so often, and the more I got to know her, the more I liked her. She was the kind of woman any man would have lost his heart to. I lost mine." Govinda and Neelam were one of Bollywood's most beloved on-screen pairs in the 1980s and early 1990s, starring in over a dozen films. Their memorable projects include 'Love 86' and 'Ilzaam' from 1986, 'Khudgarz' and 'Sindoor' from 1987, and several 1989 releases like 'Farz Ki Jung', 'Billoo Badshah', 'Taaqatwar', and 'Gharana'.
Current Status of Govinda and Neelam's Careers
On the professional front, Govinda has maintained a low profile in recent years, with his last film release being 'Rangeela Raja' in 2019, which did not perform well at the box office. He has not undertaken any new projects since then. In contrast, Neelam Kothari has remained active in the entertainment industry, making a recent appearance in 2024 on Netflix's third season of 'Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives', demonstrating her enduring presence in the public eye.
This revelation offers a nostalgic glimpse into the golden era of Bollywood, where romance and chemistry defined many iconic duos. Govinda's honest reflections provide fans with a deeper understanding of the personal dynamics behind some of the industry's most celebrated partnerships.
