Govinda Takes Aim at Karan Johar Over Film 'Govinda Naam Mera', Citing Privacy Concerns
Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, celebrated for his iconic comic roles in films like 'Hero No. 1', 'Coolie No. 1', and 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', has openly targeted acclaimed filmmaker Karan Johar. The criticism centers on the 2022 movie 'Govinda Naam Mera', which Govinda believes inappropriately uses his name and mirrors elements of his personal life.
Actor Expresses Displeasure Over Film's Content and Title
In a recent interview with ANI, Govinda hinted strongly at Karan Johar's involvement, stating, "Someone made a film using my name... perhaps 'Govinda Naam Mera'... I don't know... I think it was made by Karan Johar." The film, directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan, features a star-studded cast including Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani.
Govinda elaborated that the plot, which revolves around a husband, wife, and girlfriend, depicts conflicts and misunderstandings in personal relationships. While he appreciates humor in cinema, the actor emphasized the importance of maintaining respect and sensitivity when portraying such intimate themes. He urged filmmakers to avoid interfering in his private affairs, saying, "I promise, no misbehave, please. I request with folded hands. Jokes are not always good everywhere and in every way."
Govinda Discusses Family, Son's Career, and Political Exit
Beyond the controversy, Govinda shared insights into his family life and professional support for his son, Yashvardhan Ahuja. Expressing immense confidence in Yashvardhan's potential, he remarked, "Yash will become a better actor than me. He is technically stronger than me... he is huge." The actor revealed that he facilitated opportunities for his son, noting, "On my request, Sajid Nadiadwala gave him a cabin so he could learn different aspects of filmmaking."
Addressing past claims by his wife, Sunita Ahuja, Govinda explained his decision to leave politics, stating, "I left politics for my family as I did not want political life to hamper my family life and have an adverse effect on my children." He preferred not to dwell on personal allegations, adding, "I do not want to discuss this topic further. Even answering it feels disrespectful."
