Expanding on this observation, Imran pointed out that Indian cinema has historically functioned as a family-driven business model with deep-rooted patterns of intergenerational involvement. "In the Indian film industry – I don't want to single out only the Hindi film industry – there has been a long-standing pattern of it being a family business and there being a lot of incest within," he noted with a laugh. According to his analysis, this structural characteristic explains why the nepotism debate has always existed within cinematic circles. "That has historically been a feature of the industry. So, that conversation has always been around," he concluded.

Imran further elaborated that nepotism becomes particularly controversial primarily when audiences reject the creative work of industry insiders. He cited Ranbir Kapoor as a compelling example of how exceptional performances can fundamentally shift public perception, regardless of family background.
"Ranbir's from film royalty. His family founded the film industry," Imran observed. "But he's a fantastic actor and nobody has any complaints about that."
The actor went on to clarify that criticism in the entertainment industry is often fundamentally linked to merit rather than lineage or connections alone. Emphasizing this crucial distinction, Imran added, "I really think that the issue comes in when people don't like the quality of their work. If they don't think that you're a good actor or a filmmaker, then they'll criticise you very rightly."
