Jana Duggar Breaks Silence on Brother Joseph's Arrest, Stands with Alleged Victim
Jana Duggar has finally broken her silence regarding the arrest of her brother, Joseph Duggar, and her statement is both heartfelt and resolute. She expressed profound sadness and shock, while making it unequivocally clear that she stands with the alleged victim in this distressing case.
Jana Duggar's Emotional Statement on Instagram
In a post on Instagram, Jana Duggar stated, "We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the situation involving my brother, Joseph." She emphasized that her family was completely blindsided by the news, adding, "had no prior knowledge before it became public." This line underscores the family's lack of awareness prior to the public revelation. Jana, who recently welcomed her first child with Stephen Wissmann in December, further noted, "Our hearts are with the child who has been harmed—this is a grievous and unacceptable wrong." She mentioned that they are praying for both the victim and for justice to be served.
Other Duggar Siblings Weigh In on the Situation
According to reports from People, other members of the Duggar family have also spoken out. Jason Duggar and his wife Maddie expressed their anger and stated that they "pray God's righteous hand and the court system will serve justice in the situation as deserved." They praised the victim as brave for coming forward and highlighted the impact on Joseph's children, who "must face the reality of losing a father that should have been a spiritual leader in their lives."
Jinger Duggar and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, discussed the matter on their podcast, reflecting on the family's history with legal troubles. They referenced their oldest brother, Josh Duggar, who was convicted in 2021 for child sexual abuse material and accused of molesting five girls, including sisters Jill and Jessa. Jinger remarked, "You can't be prepared for news like this, even though we've experienced something very similar before, with one of my other siblings, who made unthinkable choices, decisions that have affected all of us." She added on 'Jinger & Jeremy', "And yet the pain and hurt that's caused to us, but then to so many others, is just so hard. It's hard to know what to do sometimes, moving forward. You just feel the weight of it."
Who is Joseph Duggar and What Are the Charges?
Joseph Duggar is one of the children from the Duggar family, known for their appearances on reality shows like '19 Kids and Counting' and 'Counting On'. He is married to Kendra and they have four children. Previously maintaining a low profile, his image has been drastically altered by these legal allegations.
As per reports, Joseph, aged 31, is accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl during a family trip to Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020. He faces two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior, including molestation of a victim under 12 and another count for conduct committed by someone over 18.
He was arrested in Arkansas on March 18 and extradited to Florida for his first court appearance on March 31. Two days prior, he pleaded not guilty to all charges, waived arraignment, and requested a jury trial. The judge set his bond at $600,000, and he has since returned to Arkansas. He is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with any minors, including his own children. His arraignment, initially scheduled for April, has been postponed to May 18, according to his lawyer.
Additionally, Joseph and his wife, Kendra, are facing further charges in Arkansas: four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment, all classified as misdemeanors, as reported by Tontitown police. Kendra was released on bail after a brief court hearing, with her next date set for April 29. An inside source indicated that these Arkansas charges are unrelated to the Florida case.
