Janhvi Kapoor Takes Stand Against Invasive Paparazzi Photography

Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has publicly criticized overzealous paparazzi behavior, revealing that she recently engaged in a private, one-on-one conversation with photographers to address the issue directly. The actress confronted them head-on regarding the inappropriate ways in which female celebrities are sometimes photographed, drawing a clear line between professional coverage and invasive scrutiny.

A Private Conversation About Public Boundaries

In a candid discussion with Raj Shamani, Janhvi Kapoor shared details of her recent meeting with the paparazzi. "I actually had a conversation with the paparazzi a couple of days ago," she revealed. "I met them privately and I was speaking to them about how sometimes they photograph women. And I said ye humare liye to bura hai hi. Humein achha nahi lagta hai. It's invasive and we feel it's not consensual."

The actress acknowledged that being photographed comes with her profession, but she stressed that certain practices cross ethical boundaries. Zooming into specific body parts or capturing unauthorized angles causes significant discomfort, she emphasized, noting that even when she chooses an outfit for a public appearance, it doesn't constitute consent for such intrusive photography.

The Consent Conversation Extends Beyond Paparazzi

Janhvi Kapoor made it clear that consent remains paramount across all professional contexts. She referenced her song 'Bheegi Saree' as an example of deliberate, agreed-upon artistic expression. "The idea for that was—I wouldn't say to titillate—but it was a sensual song," she clarified, distinguishing between consensual creative choices and non-consensual sexualization.

"But that's very different from sexualising someone especially without their consent. That in every form I am not okay with, and that does bother me," the actress stated firmly. She highlighted the disturbing trend of photographers capturing specific angles without knowledge or permission, then enhancing these images with music, slow-motion effects, and zooms for circulation.

Professional Boundaries on Film Sets

The conversation about consent extends to movie production environments as well. Janhvi explained that even on professional film sets, she should feel empowered to speak up when uncomfortable with camera placement. "Even on movie sets, if a DOP puts a camera on some place that I am not okay with, I should be able to say 'ye nahi chalega' without me seeming unprofessional," she asserted, advocating for clearer boundaries in all professional photography contexts.

According to Janhvi, the paparazzi appeared receptive during their private discussion. She challenged them directly about the ethical implications of their work: "But more than us, it reflects badly on you guys. That you all are commodifying a woman's body against her will. How do you respect yourself? That for money, for views, you all are zooming in on a body part?"

Upcoming Professional Projects

On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor is preparing for her highly anticipated Telugu film 'Peddi', where she stars alongside Ram Charan. The movie, written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, features an impressive ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu Sharma, and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles.

Scheduled for theatrical release on April 30, 'Peddi' ranks among the most eagerly awaited Telugu productions of the year, marking another significant step in Janhvi Kapoor's expanding film career across different Indian cinema industries.
