Jayaram Recalls Allu Arjun's Creative Solution for Telugu Dialogue Struggles on Hit Film Set
Veteran Malayalam actor Jayaram, known for his versatile performances across Indian cinema, recently revealed an amusing and heartwarming anecdote from the sets of the blockbuster Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. In an interview with Club FM, Jayaram disclosed how co-star Allu Arjun came to his rescue when he faced significant challenges memorizing complex Telugu dialogues for his role as Allu Arjun's father in the Trivikram Sukumaran-directed movie.
The Telugu Dialogue Dilemma and Allu Arjun's Ingenious Intervention
Jayaram confessed that certain Telugu lines proved exceptionally difficult for him to master, despite repeated attempts and diligent practice. "Some Telugu dialogues were very hard for me," the actor admitted. "I tried many times, but I could not remember those lines. No matter how much I practiced, the words would not stay in my mind."
It was at this point that Allu Arjun, the film's lead actor and one of Telugu cinema's biggest stars, stepped forward with an unconventional solution. "One day, he came on set sticking paper to his face and told me, 'Write whatever you want,'" Jayaram recounted with laughter. The papers contained the problematic Telugu lines, strategically placed on Allu Arjun's forehead and chest, allowing Jayaram to read them directly during filming and deliver his dialogues flawlessly.
A Technique Borrowed from Malayalam Cinema's Past
Jayaram explained that this creative workaround wasn't entirely new to him. He had first encountered a similar method during the production of the 2011 Malayalam film China Town, which featured an ensemble cast including Mohanlal and Dileep. In that instance, actor Pradeep Rawat, who played the villain, struggled with Malayalam dialogues, and conventional prompting methods proved ineffective.
"Nothing worked for him," Jayaram recalled. The production team ultimately resorted to sticking dialogue lines on co-stars' bodies, with papers attached to Dileep's chest and Mohanlal's face, enabling Rawat to read and perform his scenes successfully. This experience from China Town made Jayaram appreciate Allu Arjun's gesture even more, recognizing it as a proven technique adapted to solve his Telugu language challenges.
