Journalist Vickey Lalwani Revisits 2018 Feud with Kapil Sharma
In a recent podcast interview, journalist Vickey Lalwani has opened up about his highly publicized feud with comedian-turned-actor Kapil Sharma, which erupted back in 2018. Lalwani did not hold back, stating that Kapil "made a fool of himself" during the altercation and questioning the authenticity of the comedian's cheerful public image.
The 2018 Controversy: Abusive Calls and Police Complaints
The conflict began on April 24, 2018, when Kapil Sharma allegedly called Lalwani and launched into a tirade of abuse. According to Lalwani, the comedian was furious over negative articles written about him and demanded to know if the coverage was "paid." Kapil reportedly said, "If you want money, take it from me. Why do you write like a dog? If you meet me...you are a scoundrel, I will ruin your happiness."
This phone call followed a furious tweet from Kapil Sharma slamming Lalwani for his reporting. The situation quickly escalated, with both parties filing police complaints against each other. Kapil accused Lalwani of defamation and causing mental trauma, while Lalwani reported the actor for making threats.
Lalwani's Perspective: "The Real Kapil Sharma"
Eight years later, Vickey Lalwani has reflected on the incident during an interview with Meri Saheli. He emphasized that while many celebrities have issues with media coverage, Kapil's behavior was particularly extreme. "There are so many actors who have had issues with the media in the past, about what they write, but nobody has behaved like this," Lalwani stated.
He suggested that Kapil could have handled his objections professionally by writing to the publication or visiting their office to discuss concerns. Instead, Lalwani claims, "the public just saw the real Kapil Sharma then." He went further to question the comedian's on-screen persona, saying, "The one who dances with Govinda and laughs with Archana Puran Singh, mujhe toh woh real Kapil Sharma nahi lagta."
Kapil Sharma's Career Trajectory
Despite the controversy, Kapil Sharma has maintained a successful career in entertainment. He currently hosts the popular comedy chat show The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix India. In 2025, he returned to the big screen with the film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, though it faced challenges at the box office.
Beyond acting and comedy, Kapil has expanded his business ventures, successfully running a chain of cafes in Canada and Dubai. His journey to stardom has indeed seen both professional highs and personal controversies, with the 2018 feud with Vickey Lalwani remaining a notable chapter in his public narrative.
