Kalki 2 Director's Salary Revelation Sparks Industry Buzz
The upcoming sequel to the blockbuster film Kalki 2898 AD has ignited fresh discussions across the entertainment industry, following director and actor Yugi Sethu's startling disclosure about veteran star Kamal Haasan's compensation. The original film, directed by Nag Ashwin and released in 2024, achieved phenomenal box office success with a reported worldwide gross of approximately Rs 1100 crore. Featuring an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, the movie also included Kamal Haasan in a guest appearance as the antagonist Supreme Yaskin.
Yugi Sethu's Controversial Earnings Claim
As production for Kalki 2 intensifies, conversations about the film's massive scale and star-studded cast have gained momentum. In a recent interview with Indiaglitz, Yugi Sethu made waves by asserting that Kamal Haasan currently ranks among India's highest-paid actors. Sethu recounted a memorable incident during Kamal Haasan's birthday celebration, where he personally informed the legendary actor about his elite earning status. According to Sethu's calculations, based on an initial assumption of a 20-day shooting schedule, Kamal Haasan's earnings from the project could approach an astonishing one million dollars per day.
Producer's Clarification Doubles the Estimate
The narrative took an unexpected turn when Yugi Sethu shared that Kamal Haasan immediately escorted him to meet producer C. Aswani Dutt. When Sethu repeated his salary estimation to Dutt, the producer clarified that Kamal Haasan had actually committed only about ten days of call sheets for the sequel. This revelation prompted Sethu to humorously recalculate, suggesting that the actor's daily earnings would effectively double to nearly two million dollars. While industry reports speculate that Kamal Haasan may receive around Rs 150 crore for his role in the sequel, the production team has not officially confirmed any financial figures.
Sequel Production Advances Rapidly
Filming for Kalki 2 is currently progressing at full speed in Hyderabad's Shankarpally area, with recent shoots capturing crucial scenes featuring both Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan. Although Kamal Haasan's character, Supreme Yaskin, appeared only briefly in the first installment, his role is anticipated to expand significantly in the sequel. Set in the year 2898 AD and blending mythological themes with science fiction, the Kalki franchise stands as one of Indian cinema's most ambitious and costly projects to date.
The entertainment landscape continues to buzz with anticipation as details emerge about this high-profile sequel, highlighting the evolving dynamics of star compensation and production scales in contemporary Indian filmmaking.
