Kangana Ranaut Slams AR Rahman as 'Prejudiced' Over Emergency Film Snub
Kangana Calls AR Rahman 'Hateful' for Refusing Emergency

Kangana Ranaut has launched a sharp attack on music composer AR Rahman. She calls him the most prejudiced and hateful person she has encountered in the film industry. This outburst stems from Rahman's alleged refusal to work on her directorial project, the film Emergency.

Kangana's Instagram Accusations

Taking to Instagram, Kangana Ranaut wrote a lengthy post directed at AR Rahman. She expressed facing significant prejudice herself for supporting a particular political party. However, she stated she has never met anyone more prejudiced than Rahman.

She detailed her efforts to collaborate with him for Emergency. Kangana claimed she desperately wanted to narrate the film to him. Forget a narration, she alleges he even refused a simple meeting. The actress-director says she was informed Rahman did not wish to be part of what he termed a propaganda film.

Irony and Fan Praise

Kangana pointed out the irony in this refusal. She noted that Emergency received critical acclaim, with many calling it a masterpiece. She further mentioned that even opposition party leaders sent her fan letters. They appreciated the film for its balanced and compassionate approach, according to her post.

"You are blinded by your hate," Kangana wrote, ending her message with the hashtag #emergency. She expressed feeling sorry for the composer due to his alleged bias.

AR Rahman's Recent BBC Interview

This controversy follows a recent interview AR Rahman gave to the BBC Asian Network. In it, he discussed composing music for the film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal. Rahman admitted Chhaava was a divisive film that cashed in on divisiveness. However, he said the core aimed to show bravery.

He explained why he took the project despite not aligning with its politics. The director insisted only Rahman could score the film. The composer described feeling honored to capture the pulse and soul of the Maratha community through his music.

Comments on Bollywood Work

In the same interview, Rahman pondered if he receives less work in Hindi cinema for communal reasons. He mentioned a possible power shift where non-creative people now hold influence. While not experiencing direct prejudice, he hears whispers about being replaced by other composers.

Rahman stated he is not actively searching for work. He prefers projects to come to him based on his sincerity and merit. The composer values his family time and remains content with the work he deserves.

Kangana's Broader Grievances

Kangana's Instagram post did not stop at AR Rahman. She also targeted fashion designer Masaba Gupta. Kangana recounted an incident from the Ram Janmbhoomi event. She claims Masaba refused to let her wear one of her sarees to the occasion.

Already en route from Lucknow to Ayodhya, Kangana felt humiliated and cried in her car. She alleges Masaba later instructed stylists not to mention her brand. Kangana contrasted this with Rahman's recent interview comments, questioning his stance on prejudice.

She shared a photo from Masaba Gupta's 2016 wedding where she performed. Kangana noted she never performed at her own sister's wedding but did so for Masaba. She ended with a warning to the younger generation about leftists being blinded by hate.

The entertainment industry watches as this public spat unfolds between a prominent actress and an Oscar-winning composer. It highlights ongoing tensions around political alignments and creative collaborations in Bollywood.
