Veteran Kannada Filmmaker Joe Simon Passes Away at 80 After Sudden Cardiac Arrest
The Kannada film industry is mourning the loss of one of its most respected veterans. Filmmaker Joe Simon passed away on Friday at the age of 80 following a sudden cardiac arrest that occurred during an industry meeting.
Sudden Collapse During Film Chamber Meeting
The tragic incident unfolded around 4:30 PM during an emergency executive committee gathering at the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. According to sources present at the meeting, Simon had been actively participating in discussions, offering suggestions, and contributing to future plans for the industry.
"He was fully engaged in the meeting, even proposing that a celebratory programme be organised," one participant recalled. Moments after making this suggestion, Simon stepped out of the meeting hall, sat on an attendant's chair, and suddenly collapsed.
A member told reporters, "Shortly after stepping out of the meeting hall, he went and sat on the attendant's chair, and he suddenly collapsed. It was a severe cardiac arrest." Despite immediate medical attention, the veteran filmmaker could not be revived.
A Prolific Career Spanning Decades
Joe Simon directed several prominent Kannada films over a career that spanned multiple decades, establishing himself as a versatile creative force in Sandalwood. Among his most notable works was 'Sahasa Simha,' which featured legendary actor Vishnuvardhan in a leading role.
His extensive filmography also includes beloved titles such as:

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed deep sorrow upon learning of Simon's passing. He described the filmmaker's death as an "irreparable loss" to the Kannada film industry.
In a heartfelt statement, Shivakumar said, "It is saddening that renowned Kannada film director Joe Simon has passed away due to a heart attack. Joe Simon, who hailed from Mandya and had been active in the Kannada film industry for decades, worked in more than 100 films as an actor, director, and lyricist. His demise is an irreparable loss to the Kannada film industry."
The Deputy Chief Minister extended his prayers for Simon's soul and strength for his family during this difficult time.
