Telangana introduces free breakfast and lunch scheme for students
The Telangana government has launched a new scheme providing free breakfast and lunch to all students from nursery to class 12 in state-run schools. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced the initiative, highlighting that the state government spends approximately Rs 27,000 crore annually on education.
Details of the scheme
Under the scheme, students will receive a nutritious breakfast along with the existing midday meal. The program aims to improve nutrition and school attendance. The CM emphasized that the scheme covers all government and aided schools across the state.
Impact and implementation
Officials stated that the scheme will benefit over 40 lakh students. The government has allocated additional funds for the program, which will be implemented in phases starting from the current academic year. According to the CM, this initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance educational outcomes and reduce dropout rates.
