Kareena Kapoor Khan Stands Up for Deepika Padukone in Industry Work-Hours Debate
Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor Khan has stepped forward to defend fellow actress and new mother Deepika Padukone in the ongoing debate about work schedules and motherhood that has recently divided the film industry. The celebrated actress, herself a mother of two young boys, Taimur and Jeh, shared her personal insights on managing professional commitments while raising a family.
Supporting Choices and Setting Boundaries
Addressing reports about Deepika Padukone potentially stepping away from a major project after welcoming her daughter Dua, Kareena emphasized that women in the film industry deserve the freedom to establish clear boundaries. She stressed the importance of reaching mutual understanding with directors and producers well before filming begins. "As a woman, if you want to give time to your children, you should have the freedom to say 'This is what I want. I can only work this number of hours'," Kareena stated firmly.
Personal Experience with 'The Buckingham Murders'
Kareena Kapoor Khan drew from her own experience filming 'The Buckingham Murders' while parenting her two sons. She revealed to the Hollywood Reporter India that the production team was exceptionally accommodating through careful planning. "For that, I had to be away in London for about 35 days. We divided the shoot in such a way that I went and came back twice. We had Diwali in between, so we planned it in such a way," she explained.
The actress highlighted that successful balancing requires upfront clarity and detailed scheduling. "I just feel like everything needs to be really well planned and you have to be very clear right from the beginning. I'm also lucky that I would say, 'This is what I can do. This is because I have 2 children. I need to come back. You need to shoot other portions while I come back to visit them. And then I come back and I finish the rest of the shoot'. So they were kind enough to understand that," Kareena added.
The Crucial Role of Partnership and Support
Beyond professional arrangements, Kareena Kapoor Khan credited her husband, actor Saif Ali Khan, for their collaborative approach to parenting and careers. She underscored that mutual understanding is essential when both partners work. "If you’re in a marriage and both partners are working, there has to be an understanding. We can’t both be working and leave the children alone," she noted.
This partnership sometimes involves making professional sacrifices. "It is a little bit of sacrifice," Kareena admitted, "of time, or a film, or maybe saying 'no' sometimes to a film, particularly, because in that time zone, he's (your husband) is working..."
A Trailblazer in Balancing Career and Motherhood
Kareena Kapoor Khan has earned widespread admiration for continuing to work during her pregnancies and returning to film sets shortly after her sons' births. She has become a role model for juggling multiple roles:
- Managing film shooting schedules
- Prioritizing family time at home
- Maintaining fitness through gym and yoga sessions
Her advocacy for Deepika Padukone reinforces her consistent message about empowering women in entertainment to define their own terms. However, she concluded that such conditions must be communicated clearly "Before a film starts" to ensure smooth collaboration.
Kareena's remarks come at a time when discussions about work-life balance, particularly for women in demanding industries, are gaining prominence. Her voice adds significant weight to the conversation, blending personal experience with industry insight.
