Kareena Kapoor Khan: A Career of Constant Reinvention
Twenty-six years into her illustrious Bollywood journey, Kareena Kapoor Khan continues to redefine herself with remarkable ease. At a recent event in Mumbai, the celebrated actress opened up about her evolving career, the balance between food and fitness, and why certain family rumors need to be put to rest.
Setting the Record Straight on Raj Kapoor Studios
Rumors have been swirling about cousins Ranbir Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor potentially reviving the iconic Raj Kapoor Studios. Kareena Kapoor Khan, however, firmly dismisses these speculations. "That's just not true," she clarifies. "It was even being discussed in our family group, and everyone was like, 'This isn't happening.' I feel people really want it to happen."
She elaborates on Ranbir Kapoor's current focus, stating, "I feel like Ranbir is focused on acting. He loves acting. I think he's the best actor in India we have today. So, his focus is on that. It's heartbreaking, but it's not happening." Kareena suggests that perhaps Karisma and Ranbir should consider the revival, adding, "Maybe Lolo and Ranbir should think about it because I don't think I can think like a director or a producer."
Reinvention and Future Projects
Reflecting on her career since her 2000 debut in Refugee, Kareena emphasizes the importance of continuous evolution. "There is no sketch, but reinvention is trying to do something different every year," she explains. Her upcoming film Daayra with director Meghna Gulzar represents this philosophy. "I had never worked with Meghna Gulzar. She's a wonderful director. Our film is topical, and I'm really looking forward to it."
Looking ahead, she reveals, "My reinvention will come with my character. I am hoping to do something really different this year, maybe a good show, maybe a miniseries. In fact, I've always wanted to do a mini series."
Pop Culture Icons and Personal Identity
Characters like Geet from Jab We Met and Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham have become pop culture benchmarks, often imitated by younger generations. Kareena observes, "I don't see people intentionally trying to do that, but I feel like Poo and Geet have become such pop culture benchmarks that, in 2026, you're kind of associating with them." However, she stresses the importance of individuality: "But no one really intentionally wants to ape them, because you have to have your own identity, and that's very important."
Fashion Philosophy
When it comes to fashion, Kareena admits there's pressure but approaches it on her own terms. "Of course, there is pressure, but I enjoy fashion, so I enjoy it to my comfort. I don't like doing things or being fashionable because I will still be uncomfortable." She avoids following trends blindly, stating, "I won't follow a trend or do something just because it's cool or looks cool. I'll first see what I want to do." Her philosophy is simple: "So, there's never really any plan to make a fashion statement. I feel when you wear outfits that are wearable, fashion becomes a statement."
Balancing Food and Fitness
Kareena, who famously popularized the size-zero trend, maintains a passionate relationship with both food and fitness. She confesses her love for traditional Indian food, saying, "I have a great relationship with food and fitness because I like to eat. I had two parathas today. I have to have my parathas."
Her fitness journey has been experimental but consistently returns to yoga. "I like to try different workouts and experiment with them, but my heart crawls back to yoga, because that's where it lies." She recently restarted her yoga practice in 2026, which began in 2007 during Tashan. "I can feel my body transforming again," she shares. "I've tried a thousand workouts, but I always go back there. So, I'm always going to eat my parathas and continue doing my yoga."
Through this candid conversation, Kareena Kapoor Khan demonstrates how she navigates the demands of stardom while staying true to her personal values and evolving artistic vision.
