Karni Sena Chief Issues Stern Warning to Filmmakers Over Alleged Insults to Sanatan Dharma
The national president of the Kshatriya Karni Sena, Raj Shekhawat, has issued a forceful warning to filmmakers, alleging that certain movies target Sanatan Dharma and hurt religious and community sentiments. In a statement that has stirred controversy, Shekhawat declared that his group might confront filmmakers at their homes in Mumbai to "teach them a lesson."
Allegations Against Upcoming Films
Shekhawat specifically voiced objections to two upcoming films: Yadav Ji Ki Love Story and Ghooskhor Pandat. According to reports from news agency PTI, he accused the filmmakers of disrespecting faith and social groups. "The time has come to enter the homes of producers and directors who make films on our deities and culture and teach them a lesson," Shekhawat stated, speaking to reporters on Saturday night after offering prayers at the Chamunda temple in Hallu Sarai.
He further directed Karni Sena workers to be prepared, adding, "We will soon go to Mumbai and take action against such filmmakers in their own homes." Shekhawat claimed that filmmakers had previously targeted Kshatriya and Brahmin communities and are now "insulting" the Yadav community. He argued that such films misuse freedom of expression to "mislead the youth" and "hurt religious sentiments."
Protests and Legal Challenges
Regarding Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, slated for release on February 27, Shekhawat noted that members of the community are already protesting. Critics have raised objections over the portrayal of a romantic relationship between a Yadav woman and a Muslim man, which some claim could disturb social harmony. Some BJP leaders have also called for a ban on the film. The filmmakers have not yet responded to these allegations, as per PTI reports.
In a related development, an FIR was registered in Sambhal on February 18 against the producer, director, and lead actors of Yadav Ji Ki Love Story. Separately, the Netflix film Ghooskhor Pandat faced a legal challenge over its title, leading the platform to agree to change it after court proceedings.
Broader Political Movement Announced
Beyond the film controversy, Shekhawat announced a "mega-movement" in Delhi on March 8 to oppose new UGC equity regulations. He revealed that a Swarna Samaj Committee has been formed to demand the withdrawal of these regulations and stated that the organization is in touch with MPs for support.
This warning from the Karni Sena chief highlights ongoing tensions between cultural groups and the film industry, raising concerns about artistic freedom and community sensitivities in India.
