Viral TikTok Review Slams Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes' Kansas City Steakhouse
A night intended as a farewell dinner for a friend joining the Army turned into a widely discussed culinary disappointment at 1587 Prime, the high-end steakhouse co-owned by Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. The restaurant is facing renewed scrutiny after TikTok creator Nicole Rose posted a viral review on March 22, detailing a slow, expensive, and frustrating dining experience that has sparked significant online backlash.
Service and Pricing Woes Highlighted in Viral Complaint
Nicole Rose recounted her visit to 1587 Prime on a Thursday evening with friends, including one preparing for military service. What should have been a memorable celebration quickly deteriorated due to poor service. Rose reported that it took 45 minutes for a martini to arrive, and when it did, it was incorrect. The restaurant's tableside martini setup was not explained; instead, papers were provided for ordering, followed by a 25-minute wait for preparation. The $33 martini, in her view, did not justify its cost or presentation.
Further issues included fried chicken arriving before drinks, priced at $25 but deemed unimpressive, and a friend having to search for a server to refill a beer. The total bill for the table reached $650, leading Rose to conclude she would prefer Gibson's in Chicago over 1587 Prime any day.
Steak Quality Under Fire from Multiple Sources
The core problem extended beyond service to the steak itself, a critical element for any steakhouse. Rose noted that sauces were forgotten and arrived after one friend had finished eating. Her own $100 steak was incorrectly cooked, and she could not locate a server to address the issue. This criticism is not isolated; it echoes earlier complaints from Defector's Liz Cook, who visited twice and reported that steaks were overcooked, too thin, or served without proper utensils.
Cook emphasized that the main trouble with 1587 Prime is its failure to excel in steaks, despite its luxury branding. The alignment between a viral customer review and a published critic's assessment makes these complaints harder for the restaurant to dismiss, increasing pressure on Kelce and Mahomes.
Legal and Reputational Challenges for the Celebrity-Owned Venue
Amidst this negative publicity, 1587 Prime is also entangled in a trademark lawsuit. On February 17, 1587 Sneakers sued over trademark and apparel claims related to the use of "1587" and "1587 PRIME." However, earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald declined to grant emergency relief to the plaintiff, citing jurisdiction issues, service concerns, and a significant delay in seeking action. This legal reprieve offers a small break for the Chiefs stars, but the ongoing customer dissatisfaction poses a more immediate threat to the restaurant's reputation.
Despite the criticisms, Rose did praise some menu items, calling the broccolini with chili "ten out of ten" and the Parker House rolls "the best rolls I've ever had at any restaurant." However, these positives were overshadowed by the overall poor experience, highlighting the challenges faced by celebrity-owned establishments in maintaining consistent quality and service standards.
