Filmmaker's International Travel Plans Thrown Into Chaos
Widespread flight disruptions at IndiGo caused nationwide travel chaos on Friday, December 6, 2025, impacting thousands of passengers. Among those affected was prominent filmmaker Kiran Rao, whose international journey to Tokyo was completely derailed due to repeated delays and a lack of clear communication from the airline.
A Long Day at Terminal 2 With No Destination in Sight
Rao, who was scheduled to travel from Mumbai to Tokyo, revealed that she had already spent over eleven hours since leaving her home and should have arrived at her destination by that point. Instead, she found herself stranded inside Mumbai Airport's Terminal 2 without any confirmed update from the carrier regarding her flight.
Taking to her Instagram story, Rao shared her frustration but infused the situation with her characteristic humour. She remarked that she had now gotten to know Terminal 2 "really well." In her post, she also made a witty reference to checking on Delhi's pollution alert status, known as GRAP II.
Her post read, "By now (11 hours since I left home) I should've reached Tokyo, but it was nice to get to know Mumbai T2 really well, thanks to IndiGo. And now I'm checking on how Delhi is doing with GRAP II. Good day, all in all."
Airline Apologises as DGCA Steps In
Facing mounting anger online and operational chaos, IndiGo issued a formal public apology on Friday. The airline confirmed that all domestic departures from Delhi Airport (DEL) for December 5, 2025, had been cancelled due to severe operational challenges affecting airports across the country.
In its statement, the airline said, "To each one of our customers - We are truly sorry and will take care. We deeply apologise and understand how difficult the past few days have been for many of you. While this will not be resolved overnight, we assure you that we will do everything in our capacity to help you in the meantime and to bring our operations back to normal at the earliest."
In response to the crisis, the aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), ordered the formation of a high-level, four-member committee. This committee has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive review and assessment of the circumstances that led to the widespread operational disruptions at IndiGo Airlines in recent days.
The incident highlights the significant ripple effects of airline operational failures, affecting everyone from everyday travellers to public figures, and has prompted serious regulatory scrutiny.
