Kolkata police investigating the death of 66-year-old filmmaker Anik Dutta have now confirmed that it was a case of suicide. The conclusion is based on several findings, including the postmortem report, witness accounts, and the recovery of a note and a pair of slippers on the roof from which Dutta fell.
Details of the Incident
Dutta died after falling from the roof of a six-storey residential building in Hindustan Park on Wednesday. Police discovered a pair of leather sandals on the parapet on the eastern side and a cinematography magazine at the scene. CCTV footage revealed that upon arriving at the address, Dutta went directly to the roof without attempting to meet his wife.
Evidence Supporting Suicide
An officer stated, "These are theories for which we are collecting corroborative evidence with help from forensic experts." The note addressed to his daughter also mentioned seeking apologies from a few friends and acquaintances. The postmortem report showed multiple injuries consistent with a fall from height, including multiple fractures and ruptures.
Police plan to speak with family members after the last rites are completed. They have collected CCTV footage that tracks Dutta's movements from his Dover Lane residence to the Hindustan Park address.
